Opening up opportunities in high-end applications in emerging fields such as AI, China's RISC-V chips are flourishing in Shanghai | RISC |
On August 28th, the 3rd China RISC-V Industry Forum of Dishui Lake was held in the Lingang New Area of Shanghai Free Trade Zone. This forum is jointly hosted by the China RISC-V Industry Alliance and Xinyuan Microelectronics Co., Ltd., aiming to promote the ecological development of RISC-V, promote the industrialization and application innovation of RISC-V chips in China. At the meeting, the world's first RISC-V patent alliance was officially established, with the participation of 9 companies including Xinyuan Corporation and Xinlai Rongzhi. The Patent Alliance is committed to building a non litigation ecosystem for RISC-V patents, and jointly promoting the continuous innovation and rapid development of RISC-V technology. Xinyuan Technology has been awarded as the main enterprise of the RISC-V industrial chain in the Lingang New Area, and will assume the responsibility of clustering and shaping the industrial chain in the future.
RISC-V is a free and open instruction set architecture based on the principle of reduced instruction set computing. It is the fifth generation RISC based CPU instruction set architecture developed by Professor David Patterson, a Turing Award winner at the University of California, Berkeley, and his research team after more than 30 years of research and development. The RISC-V architecture is concise and robust, and different parts can be organized together in a modular manner to meet various application scenarios. Its streamlined and open-source features allow for the development of unique chips that better meet specific needs, breaking the conventions of high licensing fees and customization difficulties in x86 and ARM architectures.
Statistics show that out of the global shipment of over 10 billion RISC-V chips, China's RISC-V chip shipment accounts for half of the market. The development momentum of this architecture in many emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and deep learning is very evident.
Tang Wenkan, Deputy Director of the Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, stated that with its excellent performance of openness, simplification, and flexibility, RISC-V is expected to become one of the core processors of the Internet of Things era. "Shanghai is the earliest city in China to support RISC-V, and has always regarded RISC-V as a key cultivation direction, supporting various related industry activities to be held in Shanghai."

According to Wu Xiaohua, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Lingang New Area, Lingang New Area is one of the earliest regions in China to promote the RISC-V industry. It has always regarded RISC-V related industries as an important area to support the development of Lingang's integrated circuit industry. Currently, it has gathered more than ten RISC-V chip design, EDA, and IP development enterprises, as well as dozens of RISC-V chip application enterprises. Lingang is the region with the highest concentration of EDA and IP enterprises in China. In the future, Lingang Management Committee will leverage the advantages of the most complete local integrated circuit industry chain, the highest concentration, and deep upstream and downstream collaboration to build a highland for the domestic RISC-V industry.
The reporter learned that in the previous two sessions of the China RISC-V Industry Forum at Dishui Lake, a batch of chips representing China's advanced IC design level were promoted each time. At this forum, 10 companies, including Xiamen Computing Technology Co., Ltd. and Suzhou Kuhan Information Technology Co., Ltd., delivered speeches and released a total of 10 new local RISC-V chip products, covering fields such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, automotive, and industrial security.
Dai Weimin, founder, chairman, and president of Xinyuan Corporation, stated that among the products promoted at the previous Dishui Lake Forum, domestic RISC-V chips have already achieved mass production and shipment of tens of millions, mainly concentrated in the field of Internet of Things applications. From the registration status of products released at this year's Dishui Lake Forum, it can be seen that RISC-V technology is gradually opening up in high-end applications. The Dishui Lake Forum and China's RISC-V industry are growing together, and their influence is also increasing. In the future, the Dishui Lake Forum will collaborate with various industrial forces to continuously promote the ecological prosperity of RISC-V.
