On July 17th, the "Baozhen · Commemorating the 120th Anniversary of He Luting's Birthday Special Exhibition" opened at the production site of the "March of the Volunteers" in Baidai Xiaolou.
Born in July 1903, He Luting is a famous contemporary composer, music theorist, music educator and music activist in China. When he was young, he Luting participated in the Guangzhou uprising in 1927 and was admitted to the Shanghai National Junior College of Music School in 1931. Only three years later, he composed the piano piece "Shepherd Boy Piccolo", which set a precedent for the "nationalization" of Chinese piano. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, He Luting participated in the Shanghai cultural circles anti-Japanese national salvation drama team, composed a series of revolutionary songs. Since then, he created the "Guerrilla Song" in Linfen, Shanxi in 1937, which was sung for a while, which greatly inspired the anti-Japanese fighting spirit of the military and civilians across the country.
After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, He Luting served as the Dean of Shanghai Conservatory of Music for a long time, making outstanding contributions to the development of socialist music and the popularization and improvement of national music education. In April 1998, he was awarded the "Outstanding Contribution Award in Shanghai Literature and Art".
The reporter learned from the Xuhui District Bureau of Culture and Tourism that the name of this exhibition, "Baozhen", is derived from the alias of He Luting, and is also a reflection of his lifelong commitment to authenticity and truth. As a highlight of the opening ceremony of the exhibition, teachers and students from Shanghai Conservatory of Music brought a small concert on site, showcasing three popular works created by He Luting, including "Shepherd's Flute", "Guerrilla Song", and "Lycra", using instruments such as bamboo flute, accordion, and violin.
It is worth mentioning that the piano piece "Shepherd's Flute", recorded on May 22, 1935, was produced in Baidai Xiaolou and was also the first recording of "Shepherd's Flute". After 88 years, the same melody echoed again in the same place, and young students from Shanghai Conservatory of Music injected the youthful vitality of this era into this century crossing piece of music.
The "Embracing Truth · Commemorating the 120th Anniversary of He Luting's Birthday Special Exhibition" showcases He Luting's legendary life from multiple dimensions, with his records and music scores created and recorded in various periods as the main exhibition. Combining visual historical materials, theoretical works, commemorative collections, and other publications, it connects He Luting's life as a creator, revolutionary, and educator. Stepping into the Baidai small building located on Hengshan Road, follow the wooden staircase up to the exhibition hall on the second floor. Audio historical materials and music story fragments can make visitors feel like they are by the creator's side, experiencing those unforgettable years together.
Upon learning that the exhibition was being held, He Luting's eldest daughter He Yiqiu sent a special thank-you letter. The letter mentioned, "My father was born in 1903 and passed away in 1999, almost going through the entire 20th century. Like billions of Chinese youth, he devoted himself to the fervent struggle to save the country. Everything he did was the responsibility and responsibility bestowed upon them by that era. Under the leadership of the Party, he sacrificed his strength with music as a weapon, and his achievements are also thanks to his teacher, Mr. Huang Zi, and the old professors of Shanghai Conservatory of Music..."
Not long ago, Liao Changyong, the dean of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, specially recorded He Luting's masterpiece "On the Jialing River", using a time and space dialogue between the past and the present to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the old dean's birth. On July 13th, the leadership team of Shangyin presented two bouquets of fragrant incense to the bronze statue of He Lao on campus, expressing their nostalgia for the old dean. On July 15th, the school leadership team once again went to Shaoyang, Hunan to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the birth of He Lao at his former residence, and at the same time, a commemorative album was released globally at his former residence.
At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Liao Changyong introduced that He Luting mentioned in the article "The Times of Music Art" published in 1934, "A successful artist must not only have mature skills, but also have extremely keen sensitivity to the times. Wang Jie, Secretary of the Party Committee of China Records Co., Ltd., introduced that during the preparation for this exhibition, China Singing Shanghai Company did a lot of sorting out records related to He Luting's music creation, and excavated more than a hundred related recording materials. In recent years, China Singing Shanghai has attached great importance to the excavation, restoration, protection, and inheritance of Chinese old record literature and sound materials. By actively engaging in the field of cultural and tourism integration, it has revitalized the historical sound memory in the context of the new era.
At the opening ceremony, the "Gate of Time and Space" composed of the number "120", symbolizing the spirit of "embracing truth", was officially unveiled. The commemorative vinyl album "Embracing Truth - Commemorating the 120th Anniversary of He Luting's Birthday" derived from this exhibition was also announced simultaneously at the opening ceremony. In the near future, this album will be officially published and distributed by China Records Co., Ltd. under the "Shangyin" brand logo.
This exhibition is jointly organized by the Culture and Tourism Bureau of Xuhui District, China Records Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Conservatory of Music. The exhibition site is also interspersed with many interactive "Easter eggs". For example, a smart piano is placed in the exhibition hall, which can display classic works of He Luting such as "The Shepherd's Flute" and "lullaby". Visitors can try playing them.
