Bend to Jiangwan! The "Ten Scenic Spots of Xinjiangwan" make a new appearance, and the Kuixing Pavilion in the Eighteen Bend of the Qiujiang River | History | Jiangwan
The Qiu River bends eighteen times, reaching the bend of the river. Before the 8th century AD, the old road of Wusong River was now Qiujiang Road. From Jiaxing Road and Bridge to the east end of Jiangwan Town, it flows into the East China Sea. This estuary is called Jiangwan.
On June 20th, the locomotive square at the former site of Jiangwan Station on the Songhu Railway, China's first commercial railway, was filled with cheerful gongs and ancient nursery rhymes. On that day, Jiangwan Town Street in Hongkou District held a celebration of the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, officially releasing the "Ten Views of New Jiangwan" and making efforts to create a large-scale ideological and political course route for the "Ten Views of New Jiangwan". It deeply explores the unique cultural and living landscape of Jiangwan, which is rich in historical heritage, red genes, and good governance models, and draws a vast picture of Jiangwan's transformation and leap.

A millennium old town with profound cultural heritage
According to the "Jiangwan Town Annals", the name of Jiangwan Town first appeared in the "History of Song". According to legend, when the national hero Han Shizhong resisted the Jin Dynasty, the Chinese army was stationed here. After some family members settled down, a small town gradually formed, with a history of over 900 years, endowing Jiangwan with a thousand year old ancient town heritage. At the same time, there are still remnants of China's first operating railway, the Songhu Railway, and the former site of the Songhu Anti Japanese War, which are full of century old vicissitudes, preserved in the jurisdiction.

In September 1984, Jiangwan Town was incorporated into Hongkou District from Baoshan County. On September 1, 2006, Jiangwan Town was abolished and a street was established. The former "Ten Scenic Spots of Jiangwan" include historical and cultural attractions such as Kuixing Pavilion, Langqiao, Shuangqiao Pavilion, Sanguantang, and Jiangwan Park.
Now, after experiencing a hundred years of vicissitudes in modern times, this millennium old town has witnessed tremendous changes in the past decade.

The well-known former site of Jiangwan Station on the Songhu Railway, located at Dabaishu Station on Line 3, was once one of the oldest stations in the national railway network. It was founded in 1876 and was originally a passenger and freight station with a history of over a hundred years. During the Battle of Shanghai, it was destroyed by artillery fire and underwent several repairs. After passenger trains stopped in 1963, it became a pure freight station. After the migration of freight business, Jiangwan Station has become a dedicated vehicle freight station for handling dedicated lines. By 1997, it was discontinued due to the construction of the third rail transit line.
In 2009, the surrounding environment of the former Jiangwan Station site was comprehensively treated. In 2011, this historical site was opened to the public and became another urban landscape in the region. Nowadays, it is integrated into the Da Bai Shu Container Maker Corridor, where innovative vitality and historical accumulation complement each other.

Huang Dan, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Jiangwan Town Street, told reporters that Jiangwan has a very long history, and the Old Ten Scenic Spots have existed for almost 20 years, mainly focusing on the historical and cultural aspects. Last year, while studying and implementing the spirit of the 20th National Congress, we were thinking about how to bring it into the community and residents? How to make ideological and political courses deeply ingrained in people's hearts? We have sorted out some old scenic spots based on the resource endowment of Jiangwan, starting from historical and cultural aspects, and combined with the changes of the past decade that the people are most concerned about, to form the Ten Scenic Spots of New Jiangwan.
So, starting from 2021, Jiangwan Town Street underwent solicitation, review, and preliminary screening, and twelve new scenic spots entered the voting stage. After the final vote of the citizens, ten new ten scenes that currently best represent Jiangwan's "party building+governance+service+culture" stood out. These ten scenes not only gather the beauty of history and culture, but also showcase the beauty of good governance and life.

Among them, the beauty of the natural scenery is represented by the winding Qiujiang River, which represents multiple historical attractions along the Qiujiang River landscape belt. Including Jiangwanyuan, Kuixing Pavilion, Panqu Fang, Langqiao, Shuangqiao Pavilion, etc. In history, there were numerous shops along the Wan'an Road, which used to be the busiest area in Jiangwan. The intersection of North and South cultures took place here. Strolling through it, time seemed to flow backwards, and the charm of the old street was overwhelming. For example, the Kuixing Pavilion was built with funding from local gentry such as Lu Xianzhou in the 23rd year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty. It has a two-story palace style brick and wood structure, with pointed octagonal carved windows, symbolizing "Kuixing shines brightly in the village of Fuze". Scholars and scholars often gather in the pavilion to write essays and recite poems. It collapsed in 1921 and was rebuilt by the river in Wan'an Road City in 2002.
The charm of the ancient town can be fully felt at the Jiangwan Town Street Historical and Cultural Exhibition Hall. The exhibition hall contains a large number of historical photos and donated items from the public, reproducing the scenes of production and life of the people of Jiangwan in the past, as well as the prosperous commercial and street markets of the past.

The evening bell by the riverbank is the echo of the bells from the Christ Church in Jiangwan. Jiangwan Christ Church originated from St. Paul's Church in the Qing Dynasty. The new church was completed before the end of 2008, with a Gothic architectural style and renamed "Jiangwan Christ Church". The grass and trees in the hall are lush, surrounded by green shade. The sound of the eight tone copper bell on the clock tower echoes, and the sunlight passes through the glass to form a colorful scene.
The beauty of history and culture, see "Mei Ying Zhong Lie". The 228 Martyrs Cemetery, rebuilt in 1935, was built in memory of the martyrs of the Battle of Shanghai. Memorial archway was built in front of the tomb, and a bridge was built in the southeast of the tomb, named Zhonglie Bridge. In the Battle of Songhu on August 13, the streets of Jiangwan Town were completely destroyed, and the cemetery was also destroyed, leaving only bronze medals. The "Zhonglie Bridge" has been built several times and is no longer the original bridge, but its name has been preserved to this day. The plum blossoms reflect on the tomb of loyal martyrs, and the plum trees alternate in density. They bloom and bear seeds every year, accompanying the stone tablets, and the fragrance is intoxicating.

The beauty of good governance in life lies in the "ladder of happiness". Transparent glass walls, brand new all steel structures, and 29 elevators have risen from the ground in just one year in Yixian Community. Yixian Community is the first after-sales public housing residential area in Shanghai to achieve full coverage of elevators, with representative and exemplary significance, driving the comprehensive acceleration of elevator installation projects. On that day, five cycling teams set off from the main venue, holding their original intention passports and following the route sequence on the hand drawn map, went to each point to "check in" and embarked on the "walking ideological and political course" of educating people. Meng Cheng, a young employee of Delifeng Real Estate Co., Ltd. who participated in cycling, told reporters that he usually works in Jiangwan and often passes by some scenic spots, but he is not very familiar with them. The "Walking Ideological and Political Course" combines party history, culture, and sports activities well, providing a comprehensive understanding of the entire Jiangwan culture.
At the main venue, members of the "Ten Scenes of Xinjiangwan" Party Lecturer Group were awarded a letter of appointment. Jia Xuefei, the chief lecturer of the "Ten Scenes of Xinjiangwan" Party Lecturer Group, immersed himself in the Party class by telling the story of "old station memories".
