On the evening of July 29th local time, the documentary film "Jewish Refugees and Shanghai" titled "Chasing the Jewish Legacy of Shanghai" premiered at the Harmony Gold Cinema in Los Angeles, USA. More than 200 representatives from the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles, the Shanghai People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and the local Jewish and Chinese community in Los Angeles attended the event.
The documentary reviews the past of Jewish performers and composers who were active in Shanghai from the 1920s to the 1940s, including composer Aron Avshalomov's creation of Chinese style works, and violinist Otto Joachim's collaboration with Chinese composer Chen Gexin to promote Shanghai's "music business card" "Rose, Rose, I Love You" to the world. Through the lens of documentary works, it vividly reflects the kindness and warmth of Shanghai's acceptance of Jewish refugees, showcases the intersection and development of Eastern and Western cultures in Shanghai, and tells the story of a community with a shared future for mankind.
At the premiere event, David, the grandson of Avsharov, introduced the close relationship between his grandfather's music creation and Chinese music. Chinese Consul General in Los Angeles, Guo Shaochun, stated that the exhibition of documentaries with the theme of cross-cultural communication and integration in the United States has a positive effect on promoting exchanges and mutual trust between the Chinese and American people.
