Now we are here to protect them - the "Caring for Senior Students in the Soviet Union" public welfare activity has been launched, stating that they once protected the members and senior students of the Motherland Branch
"I will never forget it in my lifetime, and even now I still keep the three red maple leaves of Shangganling." This morning, at the public welfare event of "Caring for Senior Students in the Soviet Union," 91 year old Mr. He Wenjun recalled the war and smoke of the Korean War, as well as the exciting scene of listening to Chairman Mao's speech more than 60 years ago at the University of Mosco.
He Wenjun was born in February 1932 in Shanghai. The old man once lived in the war-torn Shangganling Mountains and also went to the Soviet Union to study. After returning home, he worked hard for the construction of the motherland for decades and always maintained a resilient, brave, and optimistic attitude towards life.
Nowadays, He Wenjun is already in his nineties, and his health problems are becoming increasingly prominent. Among the more than 600 members of the European and American Alumni Association's Su branch in Shanghai, nearly half are similar to He Wenjun's situation. Shao Ning, President of the Shanghai Europe and America Alumni Association's Soviet Union Branch, introduced that in the 1950s and 1960s, a group of talents were selected by the government to study in the Soviet Union. After returning to China, they fought on various industry fronts and made important contributions to the construction and development of the new China. Some of them have become leading cadres and academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chinese Academy of Engineering, but more of them have silently worked in important fields such as "two bombs and one satellite", national defense, military industry, aerospace, shipbuilding, steel, and petroleum for a long time. They are affectionately referred to as "senior students studying in Suzhou".
"Nowadays, there are nearly 300 surviving senior students studying in Suzhou in Shanghai, with the youngest being 87 years old and the oldest being a hundred years old. They are a special group that needs to be cared for, especially when some senior students' sons and daughters are not around, or when there are special difficulties at home, they need someone to protect them," said Shao Ning.

The Shanghai Association of European and American Students in the Soviet Union has never stopped caring for these senior students studying in the Soviet Union. Last year, the Su branch organized a volunteer team composed of young members to send greetings and care to senior students, and paired them up to show concern. "They once guarded their motherland, and now we are here to protect them," said Liu Gang, Vice President of the Shanghai Europe and America Alumni Association's Soviet Union Branch. This public welfare activity aims to allow senior students to enjoy their later years, while also spreading and inheriting their patriotic and patriotic spirit.
It is reported that this public welfare activity was jointly initiated by the European and American Alumni Association in Suzhou Branch and Shanghai Fuli Health Management Consulting Co., Ltd. Based on the professional ability of Fuli Health, we provide public welfare services such as telephone condolences, health counseling, psychological care, on-site visits, and medical assistance to elderly students in need.
