The ocean breeds life and contains endless treasures. From ancient times to the present, a series of activities such as agriculture, fishing and hunting, commerce, transportation, and civilization carried out in our country are inextricably linked to the ocean.

Born towards the sea and prospered by the sea, the importance of the ocean to the survival and development of the Chinese nation is self-evident. From local to central levels, Xi Jinping has always attached great importance to marine undertakings and has issued important instructions on the protection and development of marine resources on many occasions.

During his administration in Zhejiang, Xi Jinping visited 18 coastal counties. In Zhoushan, he forward-lookingly pointed out that the development of the marine economy must not be at the expense of the marine ecological environment. "We must comprehensively promote the sustainable development of the marine economy."

After working in the Central Committee, General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed to further care about, understand and manage the ocean.

Ecological restoration has achieved remarkable results. In the ten years of the new era, my country has renovated and restored 2,000 kilometers of coastline and 600,000 acres of coastal wetlands. In 2023, the proportion of the country's coastal waters with excellent water quality will be 85%. The overall improvement of the marine ecological environment has provided a good habitat for rare and endangered species. The populations of rare and endangered marine species such as Bryde's whales, Chinese white dolphins, and harbor seals have steadily expanded.

The marine economy shows a trend of sustainable development. In 2023, my country's total marine product value will reach 9,909.7 billion yuan, with a growth rate 0.8 percentage points higher than the GDP growth rate. Farming, animal husbandry and fishery, and the “blue granary” are developing in a green, intelligent and modern direction. The combination of offshore wind power and offshore photovoltaics with the development and utilization of wave energy and tidal energy has become a new economic growth point.

Science and technology have achieved remarkable results. Ocean exploration and transportation technology represented by manned submersibles such as "Jiaolong", "Deep Sea Warrior" and "Struggle" has achieved a qualitative leap; offshore oil and gas exploration and development has achieved a water depth of 3,000 meters; ultra-deep water double drilling The tower's semi-submersible drilling platform "Blue Whale 1" successfully tested combustible ice in the South China Sea; my country has built the world's largest marine microbial resource depository...
