Naming and delivery of the world's largest ice zone multi-purpose pulp ship with the world's first tonnage, independently developed and designed by China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation | Pulp | Global
Recently, the first production ship of the 68000 ton multi-purpose pulp ship series, GREEN KEMI, independently developed and designed by Shanghai Shipbuilding Research and Design Institute, a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Corporation, was named and delivered in Dalian. This is currently the largest tonnage multi-purpose pulp ship completed and delivered globally with polar navigation capabilities.
It is understood that the ship has a total length of 226.8 meters, a molded width of 32.26 meters, and a molded depth of 19.3 meters, and is classified by China Classification Society. The ship can navigate in open waters and the ocean with ice less than 80 centimeters, and will serve the Nordic route of COSCO Shipping.
Due to the deck equipped with four individual crane units, the ship can not only load pulp, bulk cargo, and containers, but also accommodate high-speed trains, wind power equipment, new energy vehicles, large mechanical equipment, and ultra long and overweight steel pipe pile structures. Compared to the previously delivered 62000 ton series multi-purpose pulp ship, it has taken a new step in terms of transportation capacity, transportation range, comprehensive performance, and green environmental protection.
Multi purpose pulp boats belong to niche ship types and are often tailored to specific shipowners. Due to being too niche, there are currently very few global R&D designers. In recent years, Shanghai Shipyard has continuously innovated and made breakthroughs, successively developing 5 types of multi-purpose pulp ships, including the 62000 ton series, 68000 ton high ice class, 77000 ton upgraded version, and 84500 ton intelligent economy type, which meet the requirements of polar navigation. This has achieved the transformation and development of pulp transportation ships from single to series, and from conventional to intelligent. While helping China's pulp transportation fleet grow from small to large and from weak to strong, it continuously safeguards the development of China's maritime pulp transportation industry.
It is reported that Shanghai Shipyard has undertaken a total of 64+10 multi-purpose pulp ship design orders, standing out in the global segmented market. Among them, 25 ships of the 62000 ton series have been put into operation, and another 2 are under design; Five 68000 ton high ice class series ships will be fully completed and delivered within this year; 20 upgraded series ships with a capacity of 77000 tons have been put into effect, and 6 are currently under construction; 12 intelligent economy series ships with a capacity of 84500 tons have been signed, and 10 are yet to take effect.
Shanghai Shipyard has also successfully developed the world's first methanol dual fuel powered pulp transport ship, and has obtained the AiP certificate issued by China Classification Society. This has provided sufficient technical reserves for this type of ship to achieve low-carbon fuel transformation and better meet the new needs of shipowners.
