Maximizing the protection of underwater cultural relics in a semi excavated state, exclusively loading the Yangtze River Estuary No. 2 ancient ship into an intelligent cabin
On June 25, 2023, the No. 1 shipyard at the former site of Shanghai Shipyard and the No. 2 ancient ship at the mouth of the Yangtze River were loaded into an intelligent cultural relic protection cabin, achieving maximum protection of underwater cultural relics in a semi excavated state.
In late November last year, the largest wooden sunken ship ever discovered underwater in China, the Yangtze River Estuary No. 2 ancient ship, was successfully salvaged from the Hengsha area of the Yangtze River Estuary. It has been six months since it was settled in Yangpu Binjiang. This wooden sand ship, which is the largest and most well preserved underwater archaeological discovery in China, with a considerable number of cultural relics on board, has finally reappeared after more than 150 years. In order to protect the ancient ship as much as possible from damage, the archaeology and cultural relic protection of the Yangtze River Estuary No. 2 ancient ship, as well as subsequent museum construction, are being carried out simultaneously.

Outside the protection cabin, there is a pre-archaeological shed covering the entire ancient ship caisson. Archaeological staff will carry out laboratory archaeology and follow-up protection in situ.
It is understood that the intelligent cultural relics protection module looks like a thickened and reinforced "big house" from a distance, but there is a lot of things inside. Not only equipped with environmental and cultural relics body monitoring, ventilation and temperature control, water treatment and water temperature control, environmental and soil humidity control equipment, but also specially designed cold water full coverage automatic spray system. The equipment and systems in the entire protection cabin are connected through heterogeneous network fusion technology to form a real-time and complete monitoring and control closed loop, which maximizes the protection of underwater cultural relics in the semi-unearthed state.

The protection work of the ancient ship has not been slackened for a moment. According to reports, before the construction of the intelligent cultural relic protection cabin, the staff covered the ancient ship with a protective film to prevent it from being affected by sunlight and weathering. Every day, the staff and sprinkler water pump regularly sprayed water to moisturize the ship's body.
On the morning of February 27, 2023, the staff regularly watered and moisturized the hull of the ship.

Along with the protection and archaeological work, the Shanghai Museum will also launch the construction of the North Museum of the Shanghai Museum, which focuses on archaeology. The core of this museum is the Second Ancient Ship at the mouth of the Yangtze River.
In the future, more people will be able to appreciate the charm and charm of cultural relics and archaeology in Yangpu Binjiang.
