Jinshui River is an urban river that runs through the main urban area of Zhengzhou. The preliminary research work of the Jinshui River Comprehensive Improvement Project was launched in June 2020, mainly to solve problems such as insufficient flood discharge capacity, outdated service facilities, and lack of ecological and service functions in the river channel. It is a comprehensive project that integrates flood discharge, ecological function restoration, and waterfront services for the livelihoods of hundreds of people.

Project Content and Current Progress

The project was approved on July 19, 2021, and the construction of the whole line was started in January 2023. The approved estimated investment for the project is 3.402 billion yuan, which mainly includes two parts: first, the comprehensive improvement of the river course is 2.533 billion yuan, with a total length of 22 kilometers. The construction content includes the improvement of the flood control and drainage capacity of the river course, the relocation of the main sewage pipe and the renovation of the rain gate, the connection of hydrophilic trails, the renovation and upgrading of water-blocking bridges, the construction of new pedestrian bridges, the improvement of convenient service facilities, and the ecological landscape and the improvement of river course management service level. Part of the construction cost for comprehensive river regulation is 2.033 billion yuan, and other costs are 0.5 billion yuan. The bidding was conducted by winning the bid at the lowest price, and the bid price was 1.385 billion yuan, of which the comprehensive renovation totaled 20.12 kilometers and 0.997 billion yuan, equivalent to a cost of about 49.5 million yuan per kilometer. The flood control and diversion gate are 2.18 kilometers long and 0.388 billion yuan in total. The second is the reconstruction of 0.869 billion yuan along the river road and railway-related nodes. The construction content is to demolish the newly-built roads along the river road, 2 under-pass railway tunnels, 2 under-pass railway main sewage pipes, 1 rainwater pumping station, 2 pedestrian overpasses and the widening of river courses under-pass railway sections. According to relevant requirements, China Railway Zhengzhou Bureau Group Co., Ltd. is responsible for the construction.

Part of the project is about 10.8 kilometers long and covers an area of about 26800 square meters. The total cost is about 6.5 million yuan, accounting for 0.2 of the total investment. The hanging stone is located outside the pedestrian walkway. At present, the main works in the river and the relocation of sewage pipelines have been completed, with flood discharge conditions, and the overall project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Engineering design and "dry hanging stone" situation

The design of the Jinshui River comprehensive regulation project adopts the method of public bidding, and invites domestic first-class water conservancy engineering design companies to participate in the bidding. After strict review, the East China Survey and Design Institute of China Power Construction Group finally won the bid. In the design, comprehensive consideration of the Jinshui River comprehensive regulation involves bank protection, dams, sluices and dredging and clearing obstacles and other aspects, based on the dense road network on both sides of the river, many buildings near the river, as well as willow and Fatong and other high trees such as dense actual conditions, if the direct excavation and widening, the impact on the environment is greater, so the H-type bank protection pile retaining wall scheme is adopted. The scheme can make use of the existing green vegetation on both sides of the river as much as possible, and effectively reduce the investment, and the structural safety can also meet the specification requirements.

Because the revetment pile retaining wall is H-shaped prefabricated component, uneven rough surface will inevitably exist at the joints after completion, which will have a certain degree of impact on flood discharge in flood season, and there will also be certain safety risks for pedestrians in non-flood season, and the exposed revetment pile or retaining wall will have poor appearance. According to the domestic similar engineering experience, it is necessary to treat the surface. At present, the general treatment methods adopted in China mainly include stone hanging paste, stone wet paste, concrete precast plate hanging paste, etc. According to estimates, the unit area of investment, concrete precast plate hanging sticker unit price is too high, stone hanging sticker and wet sticker investment is equivalent, but stone wet sticker is easy to fall off, affecting safety, after technical and economic comparison, the choice of stone hanging sticker process. In the specific construction, the stone used is granite, not marble. The hanging construction technology of "hanging stone first and grouting later" is adopted, instead of the "dry hanging stone" construction technology used in the general building facade, which has good durability and safety. It is calculated that if the Jinshui River encounters a flood once in 100 years, the flood flow rate is 2-3 meters per second, and the granite facade can resist the erosion of the flow rate.

After the completion of the comprehensive regulation project of Jinshui River, the flood control standard will be raised from once in 5-50 years to once in 100 years in combination with the upstream Guojiazui reservoir, flood regulation and flood diversion project. At the same time, the supporting construction of post stations, node squares, children's activity venues, fitness and sports venues, etc., will improve service functions, enhance the living environment, and facilitate citizens' leisure and recreation.
