Zhang Jinghua, former deputy secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee, was charged with bribery of over 49.84 million yuan in the first instance
On July 27, 2023, the Wuhan Intermediate People's Court in Hubei Province held a public trial of the bribery case of Zhang Jinghua, former deputy secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee.
The People's Procuratorate of Wuhan City, Hubei Province accuses that from 2008 to 2021, the defendant Zhang Jinghua took advantage of his position as Director of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Environmental Protection, Deputy Secretary and Mayor of Xuzhou Municipal Party Committee, Secretary of Zhenjiang Municipal Party Committee, Secretary General of Jiangsu Provincial Government, Deputy Governor of Jiangsu Provincial Government, Standing Committee Member of Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of Nanjing Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Jiangbei New Area Party Working Committee, and Deputy Secretary of Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee to provide assistance to relevant units and individuals in engineering contracting, project development, and promotion, directly or through others, illegally accepting property, totaling more than RMB 49.84 million. The procuratorial organs have requested that Zhang Jinghua be held criminally responsible for the crime of bribery.
During the trial, the procuratorial organs presented relevant evidence, and the defendant Zhang Jinghua and his defense counsel cross examined. Both the prosecution and defense fully expressed their arguments under the auspices of the court. Zhang Jinghua made a final statement and expressed remorse in court. At the end of the trial, the court announced an adjournment and announced the verdict at a later date.
More than 20 representatives of the National People's Congress, members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and people from all walks of life attended the trial.
