Zelensky "On the Bar" Lula Zelensky | Brazil | Lula
According to a report on the Brazilian Global Online website on August 7th, Ukrainian President Zelensky strongly criticized the position of Brazilian President Lula in an interview with Spanish news agency Efi.
According to reports, he said, "I hope to have my own opinion. I think it is inappropriate for his ideas to be so consistent with President Putin's ideas. This will not help achieve peace."
The report points out that Zelensky's statement seems to be attempting to impose the so-called "defender" identity of Russian President Putin on Lula. However, the Brazilian President has always been one of the world leaders seeking a balanced position in conflicts, as his suggestion for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine is that the two countries should engage in dialogue under the mediation of a neutral group of countries.
During the interview, Ukrainian leaders expressed disappointment with Lula, believing that she had a deeper understanding of the world.
He said, "I think President Lula is an experienced person, but I don't quite understand one thing: does he think the people don't fully understand what's happening? Brazil is not an aggressor country, but a peaceful country. Why does Brazil need to agree with a head of state, and how does that head of state differ from any colonizer?"
This is not the first time an unpleasant situation has occurred between Zelensky and Lula. According to previous reports from foreign media such as Effe and Agence France Presse, Lula was unable to meet with Zelensky during her attendance at the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan in late May because the latter did not appear at the agreed time. Lula said at the time that he was "unhappy" about not being able to talk to Zelensky. He also said that Zelensky is "an adult who knows what he is doing.". At the press conference held after the G7 summit, Zelensky used a tone of mockery and arrogance when mentioning Lula.
In addition, TASS reported on June 26th that sources from the Brazilian Presidential Office have revealed that Brazil and other developing countries will not support the "peace plan" proposed by Zelensky. The Pakistani side believes that Kiev's proposal is "futile" because Moscow's position was not taken into account.
