Youth is Promising | Xu Dejian: Driving the Transformers Railway Tamping Car | Worker | Xu Dejian
The winding Yalin Railway cannot be seen at a glance. The Yalin Railway is located in the northern part of the Daxing'an Mountains in Inner Mongolia, connecting Yakeshi City in Hulunbuir and Mangui Town in Genhe City from north to south. It is an important transportation line for the daily travel, medical treatment, and education of the people in the forest area.
In order to ensure the safety and smooth operation of the Yalin Railway during the summer transportation period, 12 workers from the Hailar Engineering Section dispatched a large machinery tamping team to overcome difficulties such as high temperature and rainy weather, mosquito bites, and outdoor accommodation. They drove a large road maintenance machinery like a "Transformers" - tamping cars, and carried out meticulous maintenance and upkeep of the line.
"Two DC-32 tamping trucks are steel giants that are closely related to us." Xu Dejian is the foreman of the stationed large machine tamping team in the Hailar Comprehensive Machine Repair Workshop of Hailar Engineering Department. "The tamping truck is a high-tech machine that combines multiple functions such as super flat tracks and compacted track beds, and can provide precise and efficient maintenance for the line. Our task is to carefully drive, operate, and maintain it, not only to be the 'brain' of the tamping truck, but also to be the 'nanny' of the tamping truck," he said.
Usually, from May to October each year, the team will concentrate on continuous operations on the pipeline, completing over 600 kilometers of pipeline compaction work each year. During this period, the team not only carried out online operations but also maintained and repaired vehicles, basically achieving a state of "human vehicle integration". This year, Xu Dejian and his colleagues officially started working on May 6th and have been with the tamping truck for 50 days, more than twice the time spent with their families. But summer is the golden period for large-scale machinery operations. "By doing more, the quality of the line will be more guaranteed, and the train operation will be more stable," he said.
In order to minimize the impact on train operation order, Xu Dejian and his colleagues usually avoid the running time of trains during their work. For the past three months, they had to wake up at 3am every day and set off for the work site before dawn. Although he was a bit tired, Xu Dejian said that looking at the brilliant morning glow and smelling the fresh fragrance of flowers and plants in the mountains, his physical fatigue dissipated.
The operation room is a narrow space of less than one square meter, and in this area, the operator of the large machine has to work continuously in the cab every day, staring at the line and data for more than 3 hours, and cooperating with the operation buttons and pedals for more than 2000 times. The requirement for coordination ability is very high, and a slight distraction may have an impact on the overall construction. It takes at least one year to cultivate a mature operator. Over the years, each operator of a large machine has accumulated rich experience, being both versatile and meticulous.
On the seemingly straight railway tracks, there are millimeter level horizontal and vertical geometric differences, which require close coordination and adjustment by the operators in the front and rear cabins. On the one hand, it is necessary to achieve a super flat track, and on the other hand, it is necessary to compact the track bed, eliminate all line problems, and make driving more stable. This job may seem easy, but the operator needs to overcome the strong dizziness and vomiting caused by stepper walking. Xu Dejian still remembers that when he first got on the car, everyone vomited "pitch black", and it took beginners at least half a month to adapt to this process. Over time, the operators adapted to this special "rhythm" of travel. After completing the maintenance work of the line, they would pick up a cloth and wipe the operating platform carefully. "Watching the train safely, quickly, and smoothly pass through this line, I know there is also our part in it," they said.

Because he has been working on railway lines for a long time, some people say that Xu Dejian and his colleagues are like "wandering gypsies". Xu Jiande laughed it off and in his heart, the value of this job is unique. "We jointly safeguard driving safety, with faith in our hearts, the ahead is full of light," he said.
