During his speech at the meeting, Yao Ming, Chairman of the Chinese Basketball Association, pointed out that the top priority for the association this year is to compete in the Paris Olympics.
On the afternoon of the 4th, the conference approved Yao Ming's 2023 Work Plan and Budget Report for the Chinese Basketball Association. The report states that this year, the Chinese Basketball Association will focus on building a strong sports country, in accordance with the "14th Five Year Plan for Sports Development" of the General Administration of Sport of China, and focus on the "1-2-4" action plan for Chinese basketball. It will strengthen reform and innovation, tackle key difficulties, enhance industry governance capabilities, and steadily promote the development of the basketball industry.
When discussing the issue of enhancing the competitiveness of the national team, Yao Ming said that competing for the Paris Olympics is the top priority for the Chinese Basketball Association this year, with the top priority being the Chinese men's basketball team. The team's goal is to compete for the Paris Olympics in the Men's Basketball World Cup. The goal of the three person men's and women's basketball team is to directly qualify for the Olympics through world rankings on November 1st. At the Hangzhou Asian Games, the goal of the Chinese team is to compete for gold medals in all four basketball events.
In order to enhance the competitiveness of the national team, the Chinese Basketball Association will reform and innovate the management system of the national team. Specific measures include: fully implementing the leadership responsibility system, professionalizing the head coach, selecting and strengthening composite teams with an international perspective, applying digital and video analysis technology well, enhancing high-quality and targeted confrontation with international first-class teams, and establishing and improving the national team echelon.
Yao Ming said that the Chinese Basketball Association will focus on reforming the league governance mechanism with the Chinese Men's Basketball Professional League as the core, and vigorously crack down on behaviors such as passive matches, game manipulation, tacit agreement, "fake gambling," court violence, and violations of anti doping regulations. The Chinese Basketball Association will strengthen the supervision of tournament organizers, systematically review the execution of authorization agreements, supervise and improve the institutional rules of tournament organizers, identify risks and hidden dangers, and enhance the standardization, professionalism, and level of competition standardization. By establishing and improving the league committee, reforming and innovating management models, and fully leveraging the positive role of capital in promoting the development of the league. He also revealed that the Chinese Basketball Association plans to support the East Asian Basketball Association in launching a new regional basketball brand competition, attracting top basketball clubs from Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, and China to participate.
The Chinese Basketball Association will reform and innovate its organizational system by establishing 12 special committees at the executive committee level, including the National Team Construction Committee, Athletes Committee, International Exchange Committee, College Students Committee, Primary and Secondary School Students Committee, Referees Committee, Strategy Committee, Discipline and Ethics Committee, Dispute Resolution Committee, Hall of Fame Committee, Brand Building and Communication Committee, and Competition Discipline and Anti Doping Committee. Each committee has a clear functional positioning and scope of responsibilities, which are directly subordinate to the Executive Committee and no longer have dedicated business departments. The committee leaders and members can be full-time personnel of the Chinese Basketball Association, members of member units, or external professionals, in order to pursue organizational flattening and openness in organizational settings. Next, we will accelerate the establishment of committees such as the Standards Committee and Coach Committee, and optimize their operational mechanisms.
The Chinese Basketball Association will deepen the integration of sports and education, and plans to form the Chinese Basketball Association Student Committee and Primary and Secondary School Student Committee under the leadership of the executive committee from the General Association and the Chinese Sports Association. This will further demonstrate the advantages of sports and education integration in top-level design, policy guidance, resource allocation, and other aspects, and make every effort to overcome the obstacles and difficulties in sports and education integration.
