In recent days, the Beijing Tianjin Hebei region has experienced continuous heavy rainfall, leading to serious water damage on the Beijing Fengtai Shacheng Railway. On July 30th, trains K396, K1178, and Z180 on the way were urgently detained.

How are passengers and train attendants provided with food during the period from being stranded to being safely evacuated, and how are they safely transferred and evacuated?

Trapped for 24 hours, urgent food needs to overcome difficulties together

At around 12:50 on July 30th, the K396 train from Wuhai West to Beijing Fengtai Station was urgently stopped at Luopo Ridge Station.

That night, the cooking materials for K396 train were about to run out. The first batch of requests for bread, instant noodles, and other food purchased from Luopo Ridge Station have been distributed. The dining car only has two bags of rice left. The conductor Yang Long decided to boil the rice into Congee and put it in the thermos pot and thermos bucket to deliver it to the passengers. Some flight attendants take out the fruits, milk, and biscuits they bring and eat them first for children and the elderly.

In the morning of July 31, the rainstorm was still falling, and the passengers in the carriage began to be anxious and excited. Many people rushed to the dining car. Yang Long and other flight attendants distributed food while comforting passengers. Duty officer Zhao Yang choked up and told everyone not to overcrowd, food will be distributed for free. "I am a woman, and I am also a child of someone else's family. It's because I'm wearing this outfit that I have to live up to everyone."

On the other side, in the pouring rain, the staff of Luopo Ridge Station purchased the second batch of instant noodles, ham sausages, and other supplies from a village several miles away and delivered them to the vehicle. The food shortage has been temporarily alleviated.

The K1178 train from Yinchuan to Beijing Fengtai Station was detained and stopped near Yanhecheng Station at 12:57 on July 30th. One day later, the train ran out of cooking materials. Seven staff members from Yanhecheng Station delivered the remaining two bags of flour to the vehicle. The train staff will make flour into noodles and give priority to distributing them to the elderly and children.

Z180 is a train from Urumqi to Beijing West Station, which was urgently detained near Anjiazhuang Station on July 30th. Due to the heavy rain, drivers Li Tiemin and Zhao Donglei kept watching and promptly discovered the danger of flash floods. They took the initiative to retreat more than 200 meters to a safe location and then stopped the train.

The staff of Anjiazhuang Station who got the news urgently bought instant noodles, Babao Congee, ham sausage, bread and other materials from the surrounding areas. Due to traffic congestion, the materials were transported to the village entrance, and the Anjiazhuang station staff and crew members were transported together to the vehicle. The dining needs of passengers on train Z180 have been guaranteed.

48 hours, shelter and transfer along the same path in wind and rain

The K1178 train stopped at Yanhecheng Station, which has a high terrain and good geological conditions inside the station, ensuring the safety of passengers during rest.

During the period of distress, a temporary party branch consisting of train staff and passengers was established for train K1178. One volunteer was recruited in each carriage to cooperate in distributing supplies and comforting passengers; Some passengers urgently need commonly used medicines. The train broadcast issued a call, and passengers spontaneously handed over antihypertensive drugs, anti-inflammatory drugs, etc. to the train for centralized management, for everyone to use.

At Luopo Ridge Station, station master Ma Ruixin stood firm in the train control room, keeping in touch with the outside world and reporting the situation of trains and passengers. Deputy station chief Cai Mingxiang and four station staff rushed to purchase supplies, provided guidance for helicopter airdropped supplies, and inspected the water level of Luopo Ridge Reservoir. After a few days, multiple blisters appeared on their feet.

The regional signal was interrupted, and the roadbed was repeatedly washed away by the water flow. The railway department has decided to transfer passengers of K396 train stopping at Luopo Ridge Station to nearby villages for refuge.

Yang Long said that there were over 40 children participating in postgraduate studies among the passengers, but only 3 accompanying teachers. Everyone spontaneously left the relatively good community auditorium for their use. In carriage 7, a male disabled passenger had difficulty moving, and seven retired soldiers took turns carrying him to the homes of residents in the rain.

At Anjiazhuang Station, to ensure that there is no power outage, the maritime satellite phone of the station staff is turned on every half hour to report the situation to Beijing West Railway Depot.

Passengers of train Z180 were also transferred to temporary resettlement sites in Anjiazhuang Village and residents' homes for refuge.

Passengers on train Z180 recalled that the bedding in the village was limited, and some passengers experienced symptoms of colds. On August 1st, railway workers formed a Party and Youth League member assault team of more than 20 people, braved the rain and traveled 5 kilometers back and forth, retrieving more than 150 blankets from the train. "Thank you all the way, wind and rain!"

Rainstorm poured in, the temperature dropped, and passengers were looking forward to a hot meal! Zhao Ji, a passenger of No. Z180, said that all the train staff went to battle, borrowed gas tanks from fellow villagers in the face of the rainstorm, and cooked eggs and porridge for the passengers.

Safe evacuation and safe return home

On the morning of August 2nd, the long-awaited sunshine came out, and Beijing lifted the red flood warning.

At 5:30, the first batch of K396 stranded passengers on the Fengsha Line arrived at Xiehejian Station. The railway department operated a temporary train and organized passengers to take the train back to Fengtai Station in Beijing.

At this time, the passengers on this train were trapped for nearly three days. The Beijing Key Station District Management Committee, in conjunction with the railway department, has planned in advance to open a dedicated green channel for arriving passengers, organize dedicated personnel to pick up trains, and arrange passenger evacuation through subway, taxi, and other means.

At around 17:30, the last batch of Z180 train passengers, with the assistance of railway staff and armed police soldiers, walked 5 kilometers to the boarding point and were transported by train to Fengtai Station in Beijing. Among them, 5 key passengers were transported by armed police soldiers using stretchers. All passengers of train Z180 stranded at Anjiazhuang Station are safely transferred.

At 17:30, the temporary high-speed train from Zhangjiakou Station slowly stopped at Beijing North Station, and the stranded passengers of K1178 train arrived safely.

On the early morning of August 3rd, all stranded passengers at Anjiazhuang Station and Luopo Ridge Station on the Fengsha Line have safely left the resettlement site and been transported by bus to Fengtai Station in Beijing. At this point, all three stranded passengers on the Fengsha Line have been safely evacuated.
