How can China effectively excavate and protect the cultural relics of the Great Qin Dynasty to "revive" the villagers, the dynasty, and the new life
CCTV News: The Qin Dynasty was the first unified centralized dynasty in China, occupying a special position in Chinese history. Therefore, the archaeological excavation of the Terra Cotta Warriors of the Qin Shihuang is of extraordinary value and is known as one of the great discoveries in the archaeological history of the 20th century.
Among them, Pit 1 of the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses of the First Emperor of Qin was accidentally discovered by local villagers during the drought fighting well digging in March 1974. On October 1, 1979, the protection hall was completed and opened to the public. The plan of Pit 1 is rectangular, with a length of 230 meters from east to west and a width of 62 meters from north to south. It has a total area of 14260 square meters and is the largest among the three terracotta pits. If all three pits are excavated, it is estimated that more than 6000 pottery figurines and horses, as well as more than 50 chariots, can be unearthed.

At present, the No.1 pit has undergone three official excavations. The fully restored part of the pottery figurines in the front is the result of the first official excavation, and the area where only the covering soil layer has been cleared in the middle is the area of the second official excavation. Since 2009, the Terra Cotta Warriors Pit 1 has been excavated for the third time, and many important archaeological achievements have been made. More than 1000 pottery figurines, horses and weapons have been excavated and cleared up.
For over 40 years, only one seventh of the area of Pit 1 has been excavated. Why not excavate all these underground cultural relics and showcase them to the public? Tian Jing, Vice President of the Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum Museum, responded to public concerns with a vivid metaphor: excavation of cultural relics is like raising children, and a large amount of work such as later cultural relic maintenance needs to be completed in a timely manner. If there is no corresponding ability and support in all aspects, there may be inadequate situations in the protection and management of cultural relics. Effective excavation and protection have been the direction that generations of cultural relics workers have been striving for.
