White House: No signs of Russia's involvement in the Niger coup | Russia | White House
According to the report on the website of Türkiye's Anadolu News Agency on August 1, the United States White House said on the same day that there was "no sign" that Russia had participated in the event that the President of Niger was overthrown by the military.
According to the report, when asked if Moscow may be involved in the current chaos in this West African country, John Kirby, the Strategic Communications Coordinator of the White House National Security Council, told reporters that the Biden administration believes that "there is no indication that Russia played a role in this matter, and Russia has not provided any military support or actual support in any way."
The US State Department largely agrees with Kirby's statement, but adds, "It is not unexpected for Russia or the Wagner Group to try to exploit the unstable situation in that country or any other country in Africa for their own benefit."
It is reported that recently, Ukrainian presidential advisor Mikhail Podolyak accused Russia of manipulating the coup behind the scenes. He wrote on Twitter, "It is now completely clear that Russia is the mastermind behind Niger's so-called 'military coup'. This is Russia's standard strategy: to shift attention, seize opportunities, and escalate conflict."
Podoliak claimed that the transitional governments of neighboring countries Burkina Faso and Mali, as well as Russia's Wagner Group, played a "positive role" there, indicating that Russia has a "global plan to provoke instability and disrupt the global security order.".
