August 15th this year is China's first National Ecological Day. On this day, Eric Solheim, former Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the Environment Programme, returned to the long lost city of Huzhou, Zhejiang Province.
In 2018, he witnessed the beautiful transformation of countless rural areas in Zhejiang with his own eyes, and awarded the highest environmental honor of the United Nations, the "Earth Guardian Award", to the "Thousand Village Demonstration and Ten Thousand Village Renovation" project in Zhejiang to recognize the enormous green contribution made by this project.
Five years later, accompanied by old friends, Solheim revisited Yucun Village, Anji County, Huzhou City, where the concept of "green mountains and clear waters are as valuable as gold and silver" originated.
Solheim discovered that guided by the concept of "green mountains and clear waters are as valuable as gold and silver", Anji created prosperity while moving towards greenery. "As long as we work together, we can create a green ecological civilization," he said.
