A green landscape corridor

From the start of construction in the winter of 2016 to the full operation of the Guinan high-speed railway in the autumn of 2023, the construction has gone through nearly seven years of wind and rain. At the beginning of its design, the Guinan high-speed railway fully implemented the principle of "ecological route selection".

The 90000 mountain belt near Libo County, Qiannan Buyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province, is one of the seven world natural heritage areas of "South China Karst Karst" and is called the "Karst Karst Geology Museum".

However, it is very difficult to choose a route plan that meets the requirements of economic development, environmental protection, and operational safety along the route.

"We went deep into the nearly 1000 square kilometers of 90000 mountains and conducted on-site inspections. After repeated comparison and selection, we abandoned the west side detour plan that had a significant impact on the core area of the World Natural Heritage Site and the east side detour plan that affected operational safety. Finally, we decided to pass through the buffer zone of the World Natural Heritage Site," said Wu Zhanbo, the design director of the environmental protection department of the Guinan high-speed railway.

In order not to affect the integrity and outstanding value of the World Heritage Site, builders should adopt engineering measures with lower impact as much as possible within the protected area. Of course, this also means greater challenges for them.

The first long tunnel of the Guinan high-speed railway, the 90000 Dashan No.1 Tunnel, is located in a typical karst landform. The tunnel body passes through 9 sets of strata, 3 faults, and 2 contact zones between soluble and non soluble rocks.

Building a tunnel in a karst landscape filled with caves and hidden rivers is like an unknown sized water tank above your head. The excavation in some areas is like dismantling blind boxes, and accidents may occur at any time.

"Whether it's the initial route selection or the construction process, we always insist on protecting the green mountains and clear waters along the line," said Wang Xianlong, the Minister of Engineering Management Department of Yunnan Guangxi Railway Company at that time. It is precisely by adhering to the concept of green development that the Guinan high-speed railway has been successfully built into a unique and charming railway green landscape corridor.

Protecting the Flowering River

Deep in the hinterland of the mountains, numerous bridges fly overhead.

The Chengjiang National Wetland Park is located in Du'an Yao Autonomous County, Guangxi, with clear water and blue sky. On the river surface, yellow and white seaweed flowers are in full bloom.

Seaweed is a rare and endangered aquatic medicinal plant unique to China, which requires extremely high water quality and must grow in pollution-free flowing water.

Not far away is the longest super large bridge on the entire Guinan high-speed railway line - the Chengjiang Double Line Super Large Bridge.

The Guinan high-speed railway Chengjiang double line super large bridge has a total length of 15.5 kilometers and crosses the Chengjiang River 7 times. Whether it is from the perspective of water quality protection or wetland environmental protection, higher requirements are put forward for railway construction.

"The Guinan High Speed Railway crossed the Chengjiang National Wetland Park in just 46 steps," said Su Li, Chief Engineer of the Guinan High Speed Railway Project Department of China Railway Beijing Engineering Bureau Group Co., Ltd., in an interview under the Chengjiang Double Line Super Large Bridge on the afternoon of August 31st.

In order to reduce the impact of engineering construction on the environment, they cleverly made "subtraction" and used 46 segmental assembled beams within the scope of the bridge crossing the wetland protection area, effectively reducing the number of bridge piers by 34 and saving about 1200 square meters of land. The segmental assembly of beams adopts centralized prefabrication and segmented assembly, without the need for on-site pouring and maintenance, effectively protecting the surrounding wetland ecological environment.

On the bridge, there is a swift dragon, and under the bridge, there is a clear spring. In addition to the Chengjiang Double Line Bridge, there are also the Lali Double Line Bridge spanning the Shishan Reservoir, the Qingshui River Bridge spanning the Duyun Qingshui River National Wetland Park, and the Piaodong River No. 2 Double Line Bridge spanning the Libo Huangjiang River National Wetland Park

High bridges stand tall and towering, bathed in wind and rain, truly depicting beautiful and harmonious landscapes.

Guarding the "Bird Paradise"

Temperature and speed coexist, green and development coexist.

In the section where the Chengjiang double line super large bridge of the Guinan high-speed railway crosses the bird protection area, a section of sound and light barrier, which is about 4 meters high and 3.69 kilometers long, has become a unique scenery on the Guinan high-speed railway.

"Minimize the impact of sound and light on rare birds to the greatest extent possible," said Chief Engineer Su Li as he approached the sound and light barrier. Due to the existence of 160 species of birds in the vicinity, including more than 20 species of nationally protected animals such as the small crow azaleas, black winged kites, and sparrow eagles, the railway department has invited relevant experts to conduct on-site surveys multiple times to gain a detailed understanding and grasp of the sensitive reactions of animals to noise and light.

This special sound and light barrier acts like a guardian angel, effectively reducing the interference caused by high-speed trains on nearby animals, preventing birds from entering the train's operating range, avoiding collisions between birds and trains, achieving a win-win situation between transportation production and bird safety, and safeguarding the "Bird Paradise".
