We will fight for each other, Shoigu: If the United States provides cluster ammunition to Ukraine, Ukraine | Russia | the United States
According to Reuters, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stated on the 11th that if the United States provides cluster ammunition to Ukraine, Russia will be forced to use "similar" weapons.
Shoigu said, "Once the United States provides cluster ammunition to Ukraine, in response, the Russian armed forces will be forced to use similar weapons against the Ukrainian armed forces."
He also stated that Russia also possesses cluster ammunition, which is "more effective" than the United States' cluster ammunition.
Deutsche Presse-Agentur also reported that Shoigu said on the 11th that if the United States provided Ukraine with cluster bombs, Moscow would deploy "similar" weapons.
Shaoigu claimed that Russia has never used this controversial weapon in military operations so far.
The report states that most countries in the world prohibit the use of this weapon, but Russia, Ukraine, and the United States have not committed to banning cluster ammunition.
Shoigu said, "If the United States provides cluster ammunition to Ukraine, the Russian armed forces will be forced to use similar destructive methods against the Ukrainian armed forces, in retaliation."
He said that Russia's cluster ammunition is "much more effective than the United States' and can be used on a wider and more diverse range.".
According to reports, the United States announced last week that it will deliver cluster ammunition to Ukraine, stating that due to a shortage of ammunition in Kiev, providing cluster ammunition to Ukraine has become important, despite the higher threat this weapon poses to civilians.
