Wang Yi: Welcome Senior Representative Borrelli to lead a delegation to visit China this autumn and hold strategic dialogue
On August 6, 2023, Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a phone conversation with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Borrelli.
Borrell expressed deep condolences on the recent rainstorm and flood disaster in China and stressed that the European side is firmly committed to developing good relations with China. The EU's "Global Gateway" plan is not antagonistic to the "the Belt and Road" initiative, but complementary, both aimed at promoting global development. Looking forward to visiting China as soon as possible and engaging in strategic dialogue with China, jointly preparing for this year's EU China Leaders Meeting, and promoting further development of EU China relations.
Wang Yi stated that currently, high-level exchanges between China and Europe maintain a good momentum, and both sides believe that cooperation partners are the most important feature of China Europe relations. China has always promoted China Europe relations with a positive attitude and attaches great importance to the scheduled China Europe Leaders' Meeting to be held within this year. We look forward to the meeting playing a strategic leading role in China Europe relations and bilateral cooperation. Both China and Europe need to engage in more institutional dialogue, make up for the missed exchange lessons between China and Europe in the past three years of the pandemic, and inject new strong momentum into the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Europe. The Chinese side welcomes the visit of High Representative Borrell to China this autumn and the holding of strategic dialogue, in order to prepare politically for the leaders' meeting through extensive and in-depth exchanges.
Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern, such as Ukraine and Niger.
