On August 19, 2023, Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held talks with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dun in Beijing on a working visit to China.
Wang Yi stated that China and Thailand are "one family" and friendly to China is a consensus among all sectors of the Thai government and the people of both countries. The development of bilateral relations is not affected by international changes and changes in the domestic situation in Thailand. He believes that Thailand will maintain stability and sustainable development.
Wang Yi expressed that China is willing to deepen cooperation with Thailand in various fields and achieve more visible results in promoting the development of China Laos Thailand connectivity. Both sides need to accelerate the construction of the China Thailand Railway and the China Laos Thailand Railway connection line, and jointly combat transnational criminal activities such as telecommunications fraud. China is willing to continue to firmly support the construction of the ASEAN community, maintain the central position of ASEAN, and jointly build an economic growth center, injecting new impetus into regional economic integration. Both sides can also deepen the Lancang Mekong cooperation, create a pilot zone for global development initiatives, a pilot zone for global security initiatives, and a prime zone for global civilization initiatives, and build a closer Lancang Mekong community with a shared future. China is willing to accelerate consultations with ASEAN countries on the "Code of Conduct for the South China Sea", strive to reach effective and substantial regional rules as soon as possible, and build the South China Sea into a sea of peace, friendship, and cooperation. Wang Yi stated that all countries should also be wary of external forces stirring up opposition within the region, inciting Cold War thinking, and undermining the hard-earned peace and stability.
Dun stated that the relationship between Thailand and China is very strong, bringing great benefits to the people of both countries. In the current situation of increasing international and regional uncertainty, Thailand is willing to further strengthen dialogue and exchanges with China, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, promote the connection of the China Laos Thailand railway, and achieve common development. Thailand appreciates that China is willing to take the lead in signing the protocol of the Treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon Free Zone, supports the docking of the ASEAN Indo Pacific Vision with the "the Belt and Road" initiative, supports deepening the Lancang Mekong cooperation, and supports building the South China Sea into a sea of peace, cooperation and stability.
