On July 13, 2023 local time, Wang Yi, Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, met with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov at the invitation in Jakarta.
Wang Yi said that in the face of a century of changes, China and Russia firmly support each other in safeguarding legitimate interests, adhere to the path of harmonious coexistence, cooperation and win-win development, and jointly promote world multipolarity and democratization of international relations. Both sides should follow the important consensus of the head of state, maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen strategic communication and coordination, demonstrate the responsibility of major powers, defend their respective national interests and national dignity, and uphold international fairness and justice.
Wang Yi stated that China and Russia are both ASEAN dialogue partners, and strengthening cooperation with ASEAN countries is conducive to consolidating regional development consensus, promoting multilateralism, and promoting regional prosperity and stability. China is willing to work with Russia to support the central position of ASEAN, be wary of external interference, support Indonesia and ASEAN countries in grasping the correct direction of East Asian cooperation, and maintain the hard won peace and stability in the region.
Lavrov stated that Russia and China maintain high-level exchanges, and the successful meeting between the two heads of state this year injects strong momentum into the bilateral relationship. The Russian side is willing to work with China to implement the important consensus of the two heads of state, further strengthen strategic cooperation, and deepen cooperation in various fields. Promote the process of world multipolarity, oppose all hegemonic powers, and jointly support the central position of ASEAN.
