Wang Yi Meets with Ban Ki moon! Talking about the development of China South Korea relations | Ban Ki moon | Wang Yi
On July 10, 2023, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, met with former Secretary General of the United Nations and Chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia, Ban Ki moon, in Beijing.
Wang Yi welcomed Ban Ki moon to attend the first high-level meeting of the Global Forum on Shared Development Action in China, and expressed that Mr. Ban Ki moon has made important contributions to promoting the development of the United Nations and international cooperation. China appreciates this. I hope that Ban Ki moon, as the Chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia, will continue to exert positive influence and be committed to promoting peaceful development in the Asian region.
Wang Yi stated that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Korea 30 years ago, the relationship between the two countries has gone through an extraordinary journey and achieved unprecedented results, which is worth cherishing and maintaining by both sides. China South Korea relations should move forward on this basis, rather than stagnating, let alone regressing. There has been no change in China's policy towards South Korea. I hope that the South Korean side and China can work together to overcome temporary difficulties, revitalize exchanges and cooperation, and showcase the broad development prospects of bilateral relations.
Ban Ki moon said that he appreciates the strong support provided by China during my tenure as Secretary General of the United Nations and Chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia, and appreciates China's series of important global initiatives, which have injected strong impetus into consolidating global cooperation. South Korea and China are close neighbors and must coexist in a friendly manner. I will continue to make efforts for the development of South Korea China relations.
Both sides also exchanged views on issues of common concern such as the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
