Wang Yi Holds a Phone Call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abdullah Heyyan
On August 20, 2023, Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abdulrahijan as requested.
Wang Yi stated that President Lech's successful state visit to China in February this year, and the two heads of state reached a new important consensus on China Iran cooperation, leading China Iran relations to a new level. Both sides are fully committed to implementing the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and promoting continuous development of exchanges and cooperation in various fields. China is willing to continue to firmly support each other with Iran on issues related to each other's core interests, jointly oppose foreign interference, resist unilateral bullying, defend the sovereignty, security, and development interests of China and Iran, and safeguard the common interests of developing countries and international fairness and justice.
Wang Yi said that after the Yisha Beijing dialogue, both sides have continued to take steps to improve their relationship, driving the formation of a "wave of reconciliation" in the Middle East. The Chinese side appreciates Iran's correct decision and will continue to support Middle Eastern countries in exploring development paths that are in line with their own national conditions, strengthening communication and dialogue, adhering to unity and self-improvement, and achieving good neighborly friendship.
Abdullahian said that Iraq attaches great importance to the development of Iran China comprehensive strategic partnership, looks forward to maintaining high-level exchanges with China, deepening cooperation under the "the Belt and Road" framework, and strengthening coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs. Thank you to the Chinese side for promoting the normalization of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, and highly appreciate the constructive role played by the Chinese side in this regard.
Both sides exchanged views on the Iran nuclear issue, and Abdullahian introduced the latest progress in contacts with all parties. Wang Yi stated that only by restoring the complete and effective implementation of the comprehensive agreement can the Iran nuclear issue be fundamentally resolved. China is willing to strengthen coordination with all parties, including Iran, to promote the development of the Iran nuclear issue in a direction that is conducive to maintaining regional peace and stability.
Both sides also exchanged views on issues of common concern such as BRICS cooperation.
