Chengdu, Sichuan is located in the western part of the Sichuan Basin and the hinterland of the Chengdu Plain. The Chengdu Plain is surrounded by mountains and protected by snow capped mountains, with Longmen Mountain and Longquan Mountain guarding both sides, forming a pattern of "two mountains sandwiched and one plain".

Chengdu has a huge vertical height difference, forming a city with a population of tens of millions, with one-third of the city being plains, one-third being hills, and one-third being high mountains. It is one of the few cities in the world with a distant view of 5000 meters of high mountains.

When the sky is clear and clear, being in Chengdu can be framed by multiple snow capped mountains: Gongga Mountain, the "King of Shu Mountains" at an altitude of 7556 meters, Yaomei Peak of Siguniang Mountain at an altitude of 6250 meters, and Da Xuetang, the highest peak in Chengdu at an altitude of 5353 meters. 🏔

The prosperity of the Chengdu Plain also benefits from the nourishment of the Min and Tuo rivers. When the glaciers on the snow capped mountains melt and converge into a stream, the river carries sediment and gravel, and deposits into a thick, open, and densely covered plain in front of the mountain.

The dawn of civilization in Chengdu was born on the highlands where the flood receded first. The Baodun Site on the southwest side of Chengdu is known as the root of ancient Shu.

Later, the Jinsha people located in the hinterland of the Chengdu Plain created a brilliant dynasty, which is now known as the Jinsha Site. "Gathering in one year, becoming a city in two years, and Chengdu in three years." About 2300 years ago, the ancient Shu Kingdom moved its capital, hence the name Chengdu. For over 2000 years, the Chengdu city has remained unchanged and its name has not been changed, making it unparalleled among Chinese historical and cultural cities.

However, Chengdu still faces two major challenges: the blocking of roads by the Qinling Mountains and frequent flooding of the Minjiang River.

Legend has it that King Hui of Qin used five "golden oxen" to deceive the King of Shu into digging one of the original Shu roads, the Jinniu Road. Afterwards, the gates of Shu gradually opened, and the Chengdu Plain moved from being closed to open.

✅Dujiangyan Irrigation Project

Li Bing, the governor of Shu Prefecture, shouldered a grand mission to build Dujiangyan Irrigation Project, the "super project" at that time.

The fish mouth, flying sand weir, and treasure bottle mouth built by Li Bing and his son cleverly connect like golden hoops, locking in the ever-changing Minjiang River. Today, Dujiangyan Irrigation Project has become one of the oldest, largest and most complete irrigation projects in the world.

After passing through the Baopingkou and entering the Chengdu Plain, the Minjiang River is divided into several rivers, which nourish a large area of land in the Chengdu Plain.

The people of Chengdu are grateful for Li Bing's achievements and regard him as a protective deity. Li Bing's son is also portrayed as the famous Erlang God in the local area.

At this point, the Shu Road has opened up and the floods have been smooth. "The fertile fields are thousands of miles long, and the floods and droughts follow the people. Rice, silk and hemp, tea, and well salt have become local products, and Chengdu has gradually become one of the prosperous regions in the country. During the Han Dynasty, Chengdu was a national metropolis second only to Chang'an.

The rap art, one of the origins of drama, can be seen in the Shu Commanderies of the Han Dynasty. At that time, haiku and baixi were very outstanding. The drumming and rap figurines unearthed in Chengdu were performed by one person, with a happy and optimistic expression, just like the optimistic and happy Chengdu people.

The Eastern Han Dynasty drumming and rap figurines were unearthed in 1957 from the Han Cliff Tomb in Tianhui Shandong, Chengdu, and are now housed in the National Museum of China.

1800 years ago, the three kingdoms of Wei, Shu, and Wu were in power, and the resourceful Zhuge Liang managed the Shu region centered around Chengdu. Upon entering the Wuhou Temple, one immerses themselves in the world of heroes of Shu Han, and a painting of the Three Kingdoms unfolds slowly.

The sericulture industry in ancient Sichuan was extremely developed. The ancients also referred to silkworms as "Shu", so Sichuan is also known as "Shu State" or "Silkworm Cong State".

Although Shu Han had the benefits of agriculture in the Chengdu Plain, his territory was narrow and his national strength was weak. Prime Minister Zhuge had to find new sources of wealth for Shu Han, and a "top-notch luxury" entered his field of vision - "brocade".

Shu brocade, a national intangible cultural heritage, is loved by people for its gorgeous appearance and exquisite craftsmanship.

Sichuan Sichuan Brocade, Suzhou Song Brocade, Nanjing Cloud Brocade, and Guangxi Zhuang Brocade are collectively known as the "Four Famous Brocades of China", with Sichuan Brocade ranking first.

The raw material of Sichuan brocade is precious silk, and the production process is complex.

The 31st Summer Universiade for World University Students, currently being held in Chengdu, used the weaving technique of Sichuan brocade to make medal ribbons.

The main colors on the front and back of the ribbon are blue and red, incorporating elements such as hibiscus flowers, sun birds, and chessboard patterns, reflecting different colors under natural light.

During the Shu Han period, the exquisite and exquisite brocade was exported to distant markets. In order to manage the production of Shu brocade, the Shu Han government built an official workshop in Chengdu called "Jinguan City". From then on, Chengdu has gained a beautiful nickname of "Jincheng" or "Jinguan City".

There are still many streets in Chengdu named after the character "Jin", such as Shuangjin Road, Baijin Road, Shunjin Road, Wangjin Road... The most famous one is the former location of the brocade weaving workshop, "Jinli".
