The river murmurs softly, and sturgeons shuttle back and forth.
Yichang, Hubei is the dividing point of the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and it is also the main habitat for the breeding population of Chinese sturgeon, playing a crucial role in the continuation of the species.
On March 28th, Three Gorges Group held a Chinese sturgeon release event at the Yangtze River Rare Fish Release Point in Yanzhiyuan, Yichang City, Hubei Province. Shen Jizhong
Chinese sturgeon is one of the oldest vertebrates on Earth, with a history of 140 million years. It is a national first-class wild protected animal and a flagship species for the protection of rare and unique fish species in the Yangtze River.
In March this year, 100000 Chinese sturgeons were released to the Yangtze River at the Yanzhi Garden, Yichang City, Hubei Province, China. This is the 68th consecutive time that Three Gorges Group, in conjunction with relevant domestic sturgeon conservation agencies, has carried out watershed based Chinese sturgeon release.

On April 24th of this year, in the Honghu section of the Yangtze River, four Yangtze finless porpoises from the old route of Tian'ezhou were relocated to protect the Yangtze River and successfully released into the Yangtze River. This is the first time that China has carried out relocation protection and wild release of Yangtze River finless porpoises.
Wu Jianping, Director of the Yangtze River Basin Fisheries Supervision and Management Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, stated that the wild release of finless porpoises is the first step in promoting the return of relocated populations to the Yangtze River. Carrying out the wild release activity of Yangtze River finless porpoises will provide a beneficial practical foundation and scientific technical support for establishing relocation protection groups, sustainably supplementing the normal mechanism of natural populations.

To build a new home, it is even more important to protect our old home. The key to on-site protection is to take measures to create a good living space for the wild reproduction of the Yangtze River finless porpoise.
At the beginning of this year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs released the results of the 2022 scientific investigation of the Yangtze River finless porpoise in the entire basin: the number of Yangtze River finless porpoises was 1249, which increased by 23.42% over the past five years compared to 1012 in 2017.

Chongming Island, located at the mouth of the Yangtze River, is the third largest island in China. The easternmost section of the island is the Chongming Dongtan Bird National Nature Reserve. This is an important component of the migration route for migratory birds in the Asia Pacific region.
In the 1990s, Chongming Dongtan, an international gas station on the migration route of birds, also faced a huge ecological crisis. In recent years, with the implementation of a series of ecological restoration projects and the implementation of the Yangtze River protection measures, the ecological environment of Dongtan has gradually been restored, and the number of migratory birds has been increasing year by year.
Niu Dongliang, the person in charge of the Chongming Dongtan Bird National Nature Reserve, said, "The reserve was established in 1998, and the number of swans has reached a new high since the establishment of our reserve, indicating that our ecological environment is getting better and better."

The river is surging, and the deer are singing.
In 2022, the first wild release habitat for elk in Shanghai was built in Xincun Township, Chongming District. In addition to the muddy environment, ecological wetland landscape, and reed marshes favored by elk, the habitat area also creates a natural and wild wetland landscape, which plays a role in water quality purification.

The sound of the Yangtze River is surging endlessly. Chinese sturgeon, finless porpoise, elk and other species play ecological music like flowing notes. In this symphonic poem of nature, the Yangtze River is increasingly shining with a new color of "ecological priority and green development".
