Tokyo Electric Power Company also announced the operational steps for discharging nuclear contaminated water into the ocean: before discharging, a large amount of seawater is added to the treated nuclear contaminated water. It is believed that after meeting the standards, the first batch of 7800 tons of nuclear contaminated water will be discharged within 17 days starting from the 24th. It is expected to discharge about 31200 tons in four batches in 2023, with a total tritium amount of 5 trillion Becquerels.
TEPCO also announced that it will measure and publish the concentration of tritium in seawater collected near the discharge outlet about one kilometer away from the coast every day after discharge. If the measured values are abnormal, the discharge will be immediately stopped.
