Recently, on the square in front of the 100th Anniversary Lecture Hall of Peking University, 31 primary, secondary, and high school students dressed in red, yellow, green, and blue costumes jointly sang the theme promotion song "Love is the same" for the Chengdu University Games, officially launching the torch relay for the 31st Summer Universiade in Chengdu.
On that day, torchbearers from all walks of life ran in Yanyuan, passing the Chengdu Universiade torch "Rong Huo" in sequence. They held high a torch composed of four bright and lively colors: vermilion, bright yellow, emerald green, and lake blue, and passionately ran.
"As the carrier of the Olympic flame, the Olympic Torch Ceremony has a history of over 2700 years. In recent decades, each Olympic Games has produced a new torch that combines artistic creation and cultural connotations." Xu Liaoyuan, the exterior designer of "Ronghuo", said that the torch symbolizes humanity's pursuit of "higher, faster, and stronger" sportsmanship, and is an important cultural heritage left by the Olympics to the world.
According to Xu Liaoyuan, the torch "Ronghuo" of the Chengdu Universiade is derived from the abbreviation "Rong" in Chengdu, which also implies "integration" and "inclusiveness". Sichuan is the hometown of giant pandas, and on the front of "Ronghuo", there is a cute giant panda holding a torch with both hands, demonstrating the optimistic and inclusive cultural attitude of Chengdu people. The design of "Ronghuo" also pays tribute to the ancient Shu civilization, for example, the fire outlet is embedded with the ancient Shu totem sun bird pattern, and four divine birds carry the sun and fly, which is the best interpretation of the ancient Shu ancestors longing for the starry sky more than 3000 years ago. In addition, the overall shape of the torch is based on the ivory unearthed from the Jinsha site; The height and undulation of the torch crown symbolize the rolling mountains of the land of Bashu; The torch also adopts a gradient of warm and cold colors, showcasing the youthful energy and passionate burning of the Universiade; The gesture of giant pandas embracing each other resembles the shape of a bronze statue standing in Sanxingdui from the side, symbolizing that ancient Chinese civilization will unleash new vitality in the grand event of young people at the Universiade.
The torch relay is one of the important contents of the World University Games stipulated by the International University Sports Federation. The opening of the torch relay at the Chengdu Universiade marks the third time that the Universiade torch has been carried across the land of China since the 2001 Beijing Universiade and the 2011 Shenzhen Universiade.
"The spark of the Universiade is a symbol of brightness, unity, friendship, and peace, representing the skills, courage, and perseverance of young university athletes who are brave enough to challenge high-level competitive sports while balancing their studies. The torch relay not only conveys the spirit of the Universiade to the public, creates a strong atmosphere for the Universiade, but also brings together the world to move forward together." Reno Ed, acting president of the International University Sports Federation, said.
Compared to previous torch relay events at the Universiade, the torch relay event at the Chengdu Universiade has many highlights and new ideas. For example, the first relay event located in Beijing brought together Yang Ling, the first torchbearer of the 2001 Beijing Universiade, Yu Jing, the first torchbearer of the 2009 Harbin Winter Universiade, and Xing Yan'an, the first torchbearer of the 2011 Shenzhen Universiade. This is not only the transmission of the torch of the Universiade, but also the inheritance of the spirit of the Universiade. It is a vivid interpretation of the vigorous development and inheritance of China's university sports and youth sports.
In addition, the torchbearers of the Chengdu Universiade cover a wider range, including not only individuals from the education, sports, science and technology, economic, medical and health sectors, but also model representatives from major country craftsmen and rural revitalization.
After the torch relay of the Chengdu Universiade was launched at Peking University, a relay event was held at Harbin Institute of Technology on June 15th, and it will arrive at Shenzhen University for the relay on June 20th. Subsequently, the torch returned to the southwest region, returned to Sichuan after its relay at Chongqing University on June 24th, and held its relay at Yibin University on June 28th. After the Dayun flame returns to Chengdu, it will also be transmitted to multiple universities.
On July 28th, this flame of youth will ignite the main torch tower of the Universiade located at the main stadium of Dong'an Lake Sports Park in Chengdu. At that time, young people from all over the world will gather in the "Millennium Jinguan City" to ignite a vibrant summer. Chengdu will present an international sports event with international standards, Chinese characteristics, contemporary atmosphere, and youthful charm to the world.
