US media: Biden's son Hunter will plead guilty to these charges against firearms | Hunter | Biden
On the 20th local time, the US Department of Justice stated in court documents that President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, will plead guilty to two minor tax offenses and reach an agreement with federal prosecutors on a felony charge against firearms.
According to CNN, Hunter Biden's lawyer Christopher Clark said in a statement that the agreement reached with federal prosecutors will "resolve" the long-term investigation by the US Department of Justice into him.
Christopher Clark said, "Hunter Biden will be held responsible for two minor offenses, and according to the plea agreement, he failed to submit taxes on time. The government will also file a gun charge, which will be subject to pre-trial transfer agreements. I know Hunter Biden believes it is important to take responsibility for the mistakes he made in his chaotic and addictive life. He looks forward to continuing to recover and move forward."
The Washington Post reported that the proposed terms were negotiated with Delaware federal prosecutor David Weiss. The agreement came to an end to a survey initiated by the Trump administration in 2018. Since 2020, this investigation has attracted strong attention from Republican politicians, who have accused the Biden administration of being unwilling to pursue the case.
According to reports, court documents show that Hunter Biden has "temporarily agreed" to plead guilty to two counts of misdemeanor for unpaid taxes in 2017 and 2018. According to insiders, the total tax liability over the years has been approximately $1.2 million. Insiders also stated that the prosecution plans to recommend probation for these charges. Hunter Biden's representative stated that he had previously repaid the tax arrears to the US Internal Revenue Service.
In addition, the prosecution revealed that Hunter Biden agreed to sign a pre-trial transfer agreement on gun allegations. According to American media, treating gun related charges as a transfer case means that Hunter Biden will not technically plead guilty to the crime. This type of treatment is usually applicable to non violent offenders with drug abuse issues.
According to insiders, overall, prosecutors will recommend a two-year probation and propose conditions for a transfer plan. A person familiar with the plea agreement said that if Hunter Biden meets the conditions of the transfer plan, gun charges will be removed from his records at the end of this period.
The report states that any proposed plea agreement must be approved by a federal judge, and it is currently unclear when 53 year old Hunter Biden may appear in court to plead guilty.
CNN also analyzed that the plea agreement will have a "direct impact" on the 2024 US presidential election.
