On June 21st, a Chinese girl who claimed to have been sexually assaulted in Maldives wrote on social media that she had sent letters to Maldives President Ibrahim Mohammad Saleh and Speaker Mohammad Nahid seeking help regarding the sexual assault incident.

On June 18th local time, 26 year old Chinese citizen Xiao Xu tweeted that she was sexually assaulted by a staff member named Usham while traveling to the Ritz Carlton Resort in Maldives. She stated that the resort management and Maldives police did not act, not only keeping the matter confidential, but also not taking any mandatory measures to investigate her case so far. She also provided evidence pictures as evidence, including photos of her being injured after sexual assault, photos of Usham, and copies of the complaint submitted to the Maldives police.

On the 20th, Xiaoxu's update stated, "I never thought such a terrifying thing would happen at my favorite tourist destination." On the same day, Xiaoxu replied to Chinese media that she was waiting for the results of the police laboratory and was currently in Australia, preparing to see a psychologist.

The relevant staff stated that our embassy attaches great importance to this case after receiving the help of the parties involved, and immediately made representations to the Malaysian Police Agency, the Ministry of Tourism, and the involved hotels, urging the Malaysian side to investigate this case seriously in accordance with the law, handle it fairly, and effectively safeguard the safety and legitimate rights of Chinese tourists in Malaysia. Currently, the case is under investigation.
