In 2013, during the construction of venue renovation and upgrading, a large area of ancient city relics was unexpectedly excavated, and large-scale archaeological work was immediately launched.

With the opening of the outdoor site area, the mysterious veil of the site has been officially lifted. The reporter saw at the exhibition site of the relics of the Shu Palace waterway in the Ming Dynasty that walking down the sewer leads to an antique water channel, built with blue bricks and reinforced with red sand and stone strips on the outermost side, densely stacked together. The traces of erosion and weathering of the bricks and stones by flowing water can be vaguely seen, reflecting the imprint of time. According to Zhang Jin, a member of the expert group of the National Cutural Heritage Administration and the design director of the Donghuamen Site Protection and Display, in order to protect the site, 1.5 meters of red sand and stone below the canal have been sealed up. However, the bricks and stones above can already make people imagine the scene where water flows slowly in that era. Strolling through the ruins, it feels like being able to communicate and converse with the ancients, dreaming back thousands of years.

It is reported that the outdoor area of the site park is mainly displayed in two ways: original and simulated. The remains of the waterway of the Ming Dynasty Shu Palace are displayed in their original state, preserving the true appearance of the site; Most of the other archaeological sites belong to simulation display, which means that after backfilling the site, the real state of the site after being exposed is simulated above using raw materials, raw processes, or new process materials.
