From a historical and practical perspective, building an agricultural powerhouse has both historical logic and practical significance. Even if the urbanization rate reaches over 70% in the future, hundreds of millions of people will still live in rural areas. To meet the aspirations of farmers for a better life and aim for the basic modern living conditions in rural areas, we should improve living conditions in hardware and create a good atmosphere in software, striving to make rural areas a happy home for farmers. Moreover, in addition to ensuring the supply of food and important agricultural products, agriculture also has functions such as ecological conservation, leisure tourism, and cultural inheritance, which can meet the growing needs of the people for a better life from multiple aspects.
From a development perspective, achieving high-quality development cannot be separated from agricultural development. In the process of promoting modernization, the fundamental strategic role of agriculture will be further highlighted. Firstly, agriculture is a fundamental industry for economic and social development, providing both basic living materials for human survival and basic material resources for human production. If there is no strong agriculture, it will seriously constrain the overall development pace of the country. The international economic landscape continues to evolve, with the rise of unilateralism and protectionism, coupled with ongoing international conflicts, frequent extreme weather, and the combined impact of multiple factors, the global food security situation is severe. Only by accelerating the construction of an agricultural powerhouse, not being constrained by others in the supply of important agricultural products, key core technologies, and industrial supply chains, and firmly holding the rice bowl of the Chinese people in our own hands, can we firmly grasp the initiative of development and ensure the smooth progress of national modernization construction.
