Ukrainian officials: Ukraine will begin security talks with the United States G7 | Ukraine | United States
According to Reuters, on the 30th local time, Yermak, the director of the Ukrainian President's Office, said that Ukraine will start negotiations with the United States on security issues.
Yermak posted on social media, saying, "Ukraine will begin negotiations with the United States as early as next week on a bilateral agreement to provide security guarantees. These guarantees will continue until Ukraine joins NATO, which is the most reliable security guarantee."
Reuters reported that the G7 pledged at the NATO summit in July to develop and fulfill security guarantees for Ukraine, and the Ukraine US consultation is a follow-up to the G7 summit.
Yermak stated that the security guarantees provided to Ukraine will be "specific" and "long-term", and a "clear draft and support mechanism" will be developed.
At the NATO summit, the G7 promised to continue supporting Ukraine, and some Western countries also promised to continue supplying new weapons to Kiev, but did not provide a specific date for Ukraine's accession to NATO. G7 members also agree that each country will negotiate separately with Ukraine to provide security guarantees and help Ukraine enhance its military strength.
Yermak stated that more than ten countries outside of the G7 have joined the G7 declaration, and Ukraine is currently negotiating future security provisions with each country separately.
He also stated that some countries are preparing to hold a meeting in Saudi Arabia to discuss Ukraine's peace plan proposed by Ukrainian President Zelensky. He did not specify when the meeting would be held, but revealed that the plan would be discussed in three stages, with a final meeting of heads of state and government. The Wall Street Journal reported on the 29th that the conference will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on August 5th and 6th.
According to previous reports, during the NATO summit, the G7 signed a long-term international security framework for Ukraine, which includes advanced military equipment such as fighter jets, training, intelligence sharing, and cyber defense. In response, Russian President Putin stated that Russia does not oppose discussing the issue of Ukraine's security guarantees, but ensures that one country's security does not pose a threat to another.
