According to Reuters, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said on July 31, after a meeting with the Croatian Foreign Minister, that Ukraine and Croatia have reached an agreement on the possibility of using Croatian ports on the Danube and Adriatic Sea to export Ukrainian food.
According to reports, Russia withdrew from the Black Sea Food Agreement mediated by the United Nations this month, causing Ukraine to lose an important channel for safely exporting its agricultural products during the war.
After meeting with Gordan Gullich Radman in Kiev, Kuleba said, "Now, we will strive to establish the most effective channels to these ports and make full use of this opportunity."
He said, "Every contribution to opening up exports and every door is a truly effective contribution to world food security."
According to reports, Ukraine currently relies on land export routes through the European Union and alternative routes through the Danube River.
According to previous media reports, Russia and Ukraine signed relevant agreements with Türkiye and the United Nations on the export of agricultural products from Black Sea ports in Istanbul, Türkiye, on July 22, 2022. The agreement is valid for 120 days. The agreement was extended multiple times in November last year, March and May this year, and expired on July 17th.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on its official website on July 17th, stating that the implementation of the agreement on the export of agricultural products from Black Sea ports has been blatantly disrupted, and continuing to implement it is "meaningless.".
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Russia is conscientiously fulfilling its responsibilities as a contracting party to the agreement, but contrary to the humanitarian goals of the agreement, Ukrainian food exports have become purely commercial activities, serving the interests of Ukraine and the West.
