Two departments deploy flood control and drought relief work in key areas
Beijing, August 19th (Xinhua) - The General Office of Flood Control and the Ministry of Emergency Management organized a special video conference on flood control and drought relief on August 19th. They collaborated with the China Meteorological Administration, the Ministry of Water Resources, and the Ministry of Natural Resources to analyze and assess rainfall, flood, drought, and disaster situations. The video conference also dispatched provinces such as Tianjin, Gansu, and Sichuan to arrange and deploy flood control and drought relief work in key areas.
The consultation pointed out that it is still in the main flood season, and the main stream of the Songhua River in the northeast region has fully retreated below the warning water level. During the retreat stage of the Haihe River Basin, there is still a possibility of danger in the embankments. Local areas such as South China, Jiangnan, southern western Sichuan, and Yunnan have scattered and frequent heavy rainfall, while the drought situation in the northwest region continues and may further develop. The situation of flood control and drought resistance remains very complex.
The consultation requires ensuring the implementation of flood control responsibility measures, and urging administrative responsible persons at all levels to be on duty, down to the front line, and command from the front. We must continue to do a good job in flood control and drainage in the Haihe River Basin, strengthen inspection and defense of flood discharge channels, embankments in flood storage and detention areas, and strictly prevent major risks during the retreat period. We must strictly prevent local heavy rainfall, and coordinate the flood control, security, and safety production work of industrial and mining enterprises during the flood season. We need to accelerate disaster relief and reconstruction to ensure that the affected population can return home or move into new homes as soon as possible. Currently, provinces with severe drought conditions such as Xinjiang and Gansu need to further improve their emergency plans for drought resistance, ensure the safety of drinking water for urban and rural residents, and coordinate the work of drought resistance and disaster reduction.
