Trump's private lawyer Giuliani surrenders
According to the Qatari Al Jazeera website on August 23, Rudy Giuliani, the personal lawyer of former US President Trump and former New York City Mayor, has been detained in a Georgia prison on charges of overturning Georgia's 2020 presidential election results.
According to reports, Giuliani flew from his home in New York to Atlanta, Georgia in the afternoon of the 23rd to surrender to the authorities.
He, along with Trump and 17 others, were charged last week on suspicion of conspiring to overturn the 2020 presidential election results, primarily by exerting pressure on local officials, making false statements, and seeking fraudulent behavior in the state, including tampering with voting machines.
But Giuliani remained tough on the morning of the 23rd before surrendering. He told reporters, "I will be heading to Georgia. I feel very good about it because I feel like I am defending the rights of all Americans. What I am saying is the truth. They are lying."
All defendants in this Georgia case face a final deadline for surrendering to the authorities, which is noon local time on the 25th. Trump is expected to surrender on the 24th.
