Windhoek, August 14th (Xinhua) - In celebration of the upcoming 6th Chinese Physician's Day, the 15th batch of Chinese medical aid teams to Namibia, together with the Confucius Institute at the University of Namibia, brought traditional Chinese medicine classrooms to university campuses for the first time on August 14th.
In the classroom, medical staff first provide an overview of the theoretical foundation and cultural roots of traditional Chinese medicine, and lead students to practice the Eight Section Brocade on site. The experience links of acupuncture, moxibustion, bone setting, cupping, warm acupuncture and moxibustion and other traditional Chinese medicine featured therapies pushed the activity to a climax. Students showed strong interest in traditional Chinese medicine non drug therapy, and the atmosphere was warm.
Jennifer, a sophomore, said that this was her first experience of acupuncture and moxibustion. "It's amazing. It's almost painless. My body feels hot, and my palm even sweats, but it's very comfortable.". Monica, a junior student, is interested in cupping and "feels like doing a massage." The students said that this experience has made them realize the magic of traditional Chinese medicine and they are considering seeking medical treatment at the hospital where the medical team is located in the future.
According to Wang Ling, a teacher at the Confucius Institute, most of the students who participated in the activity came from the institute, and this class satisfied their deeper desire to explore Chinese culture.
Li Bangwei, the captain of the 15th batch of medical teams supported by China, said that the atmosphere of this event is relaxed, the content is rich, the participation is high, and the dissemination effect is good. He hopes to better promote traditional Chinese medicine culture through this form in the future.
