"This is our mission" (the party flag fluttering high on the frontline at the grassroots level). " Chu Shumei | Grassroots
On August 11th, in Wanshan Village, Yishanpo Town, Shangzhi City, Heilongjiang Province, the asphalt road reappeared in a green black color. The vegetation on both sides has just been washed away by rainwater. The damp air and water marks on the walls tell the story of the flood that the village has experienced.
"In the past two to three days, party members and cadres in the village have taken the lead in clearing the mud and garbage on the village roads and doing a good job in disinfection." Sun Qingbo, the secretary of the Wanshan Village Party Branch, introduced that all party members and cadres in the village are currently cooperating with relevant departments to count the damage to houses and farmland, distribute food, bedding and other materials, and ensure that the lives of the affected villagers are guaranteed.
Taking the ham sausages and bread sent by the village officials, 60 year old Chu Shumei's eyes turned red. "Sun Zhishu risked his life to save both of us," she said
On August 2nd, the flood was raging and exceeded expectations. The village party branch quickly organized the villagers to evacuate. Chu Shumei and her disabled son were trapped at home due to limited mobility - a pile of firewood washed down by the flood blocked the door, causing water to overflow their necks. The mother and son stood on the kang and called Sun Qingbo for help.
At this moment, Sun Qingbo had just taken two trapped villagers to a safe zone. Upon receiving the call, he got into the bucket of the forklift and quickly ran towards Chu Shumei's house.
"The situation is urgent! I'm good at water, I'll go!" Without waiting for the lifeboat, Sun Qingbo plunged into the water, crossed a ditch three or four meters deep, and rowed vigorously for dozens of meters, finally holding onto the windowsill of Chu Shumei's back window. He traveled back and forth twice, tied Chushu Mei and her son with a rope, choked on countless saliva, and finally safely brought them ashore.
"There are still passbooks and over 30000 yuan in cash at home!" Thinking of these, Chu Shumei was so anxious that she burst into tears.
"Wait until the water recedes before going to retrieve it. It's too dangerous!" the neighbor advised.
"Mother and son have been living a difficult life and have lost money. What should we do in the future? I'll go back!" Sun Qingbo took a breath, turned his head, and jumped into the water again.
When he went ashore again, Sun Qingbo lost a shoe and left several cuts on his feet and legs. "I accidentally got scratched by the wire mesh on the shore, it's not a problem," he said
In this disaster, Sun Qingbo saved a total of 5 people, most of whom were disabled or elderly with limited mobility, and the difficulty can be imagined.
Is it dangerous? "Forklifts are occasionally washed away by water and can easily overturn if not careful," said Kang Lei, assistant secretary of the village party branch who drives the forklift. In order to maintain stability as much as possible, the bucket is filled with water, and party members and cadres have been standing in the water, their legs and feet are soaked white and wrinkled.
Are you working hard? Since receiving the warning message on August 1st, Sun Qingbo has led party members and cadres to patrol the riverbank and monitor the water level. It was not until the night of August 3rd, when it was confirmed that the entire village was safe and sound, that the big stone in Sun Qingbo's heart fell to the ground.
"Sun Zhishu didn't sleep for two days and two nights," villager Cong Risheng recalled.
"The more dangerous and difficult times are, the more Party members and cadres must charge ahead. We must protect the villagers, which is our mission," said Sun Qingbo. In fact, he has been hospitalized three times himself, and the most recent hospitalization was 8 months ago.
"Although we have suffered a disaster, I have hope and confidence," said Chu Shumei. "Under the leadership of these amiable and respectable party members and cadres, our days will be better, and the development of the village will be better."
