This French entrepreneur supports China and is free to debate the comparison of systems between the East and the West | in the United States | debate
Beijing, June 24th (Xinhua) - In early April, a debate on the comparison of systems between the East and the West was held in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, where Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology are located. The video of French entrepreneur Arnold Bertrand supporting China and ultimately winning has sparked heated discussions on social media, and has also attracted more attention and understanding of this "Chinese expert" who loves traditional Chinese medicine.
Achieve a complete victory in the debate
In the debate on whether China's governance model is superior to that of Europe and America, Bertrand engaged in a 150 minute debate with German anti China scholar Zheng Guoen and ultimately won.
In the debate, Bertrand first explored what freedom is. He said that former US President Franklin Roosevelt mentioned in his 1941 discourse on the "Four Freedoms" that the United States should achieve "freedom from want" and "freedom from fear.". Bertrand asked, do people really enjoy these freedoms in today's America?
Bertrand further pointed out that former French President Charles de Gaulle once said that the greatest freedom should be the sovereign independence of a country. "In this regard, China is undoubtedly the freest country in the world because it is not a vassal state of any country and does not engage in military alliances... This high degree of sovereignty allows China to focus on domestic development and maintain freedom of action on the international stage."
In his concluding remarks, Bertrand said that the Chinese system emphasizes collective freedom, long-term stability, and unwavering self-development, and this model has also been proven to be more comprehensive in serving the well-being of society.

From freedom, to stability, and then to prosperity, Bertrand fully demonstrates his views based on his personal experience in China. In contrast, pseudo scholar Zheng Guoen repeated the lies about China that had been repeatedly exposed throughout the entire process. The offline voting in the debate showed that Bertrand won by a wide margin.
This debate is hosted by the Inter University Research Institute in the United States. After the live video was released, it attracted nearly 1200 comments on the overseas social media platform Youtu, and most netizens expressed their support for Bertrand.

A netizen left a message saying that Bertrand "stood up for truth, justice, peace, critical thinking, and China". "Many years later, I believe that your speech will be proven to be correct and will be cited and praised by academia, politics, and the international community.".
The indissoluble bond with China
Bertrand has lived in China for many years and his wife is Chinese. The two currently operate a traditional Chinese medicine information website aimed at helping Western people understand traditional Chinese medicine. According to the website, the couple had previously founded a European vacation apartment reservation website in Switzerland.

To gain a deeper understanding of China, Bertrand visited 17 provinces in China. In July 2021, he and his family set off from Henan, spanning Shaanxi, Ningxia, Gansu, Xinjiang, and Qinghai, completing a 35 day RV self driving journey that spanned nearly 10000 kilometers around the northwest region of China.
In July 2021, Bertrand and his family took a photo with their rented RV before embarking on a self driving trip on the Northwest Ring Road.
Bertrand believes that there are significant differences between Chinese and Western cultures, and understanding Chinese culture requires an open mindset to understand and adapt. He takes Sichuan spicy cuisine as an example - when a foreigner first tastes Sichuan cuisine, they may find it too spicy, but after adapting, they will fall in love with "Sichuan on the tip of their tongue.". For him, the deeper he understands China, the more he can feel that there are countless beautiful things waiting for him to discover in this country.
Supporting China on overseas social media
Apart from being an entrepreneur, Bertrand is also a true social media opinion leader.
Recently, Fox News released an interview video with former US President Trump, in which he mentioned the Opium War and China when advocating for a heavy crackdown on drug trafficking. Bertrand then corrected on his personal Twitter account that the truth was not that old China was defeated by western powers because it was "narcotized by opium", but that western powers "used opium to narcotize China" and threatened to dump opium on China by force.

Bertrand said that the West may have long forgotten about this, but in China, people still remember it. An important historical lesson that China has learned is that if a country is weak or powerless, it will be invaded by other countries.

Bertrand often likes China's development. When forwarding news about Tesla's Shanghai super factory, he sincerely praised, "It's really amazing. This means that 95% of the components used to produce Tesla cars in China are made in China."
