During the public discussion on whether Berlin should provide Kiev with Taurus long-range missiles, Scholz made the above remarks.
On the 18th, Scholz was asked at an event whether Germany was likely to actively participate in the war. He replied that his "goal is to prevent this from happening", which is why "there are no German soldiers in Ukraine, and there won't be any in the future.".

Earlier this month, Ukrainian legislator Yegor Chernev stated that many German lawmakers support providing Kiev with the Taurus missile, which has a range of approximately 500 kilometers.
Chernev stated that German political parties have reached a broad consensus on this issue, and Ukraine is waiting for Germany to make a formal decision.
German media conducted a public opinion poll on this matter. The results showed that 66% of Germans opposed providing the Taurus missile to Ukraine, with only 29% in favor.
According to reports, Ukraine has been making demands to Germany for this type of missile since at least the end of May this year, but senior officials including Schultz and German Defense Minister Pistorius have so far refused Ukraine's request.
