The World Health Organization has issued a global alert, with foreign media reporting that an Indian cold medicine solution has been contaminated with toxic substances, causing a cold | a batch | to be toxic
According to Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao website on August 8, citing Bloomberg, the World Health Organization said that a batch of cold medicines produced in India and sold in Iraq were contaminated by toxic chemicals, and issued a medical product alert to the world.
According to reports, the World Health Organization released a message on August 7th stating that a batch of cold medicine called "Cold Stop" produced in 2022 is "particularly unsafe for children, and taking it may cause serious injury or even death.".
The batch of cold medicine discovered in Iraq was produced by Fultz Company's laboratory for an Indian pharmaceutical company.
According to the report, analysis found that the sample contained 0.25% diethylene glycol and 2.1% ethylene glycol pollutants. The acceptable safety limits for ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol should not exceed 0.10%.
According to the World Health Organization, the batch of cold medicine mentioned in the alert may have obtained marketing permits in other countries or regions, or may be distributed to other countries through informal markets.

The Iraqi authorities have not yet reported any diseases related to cold medicine. The Iraqi health department said last week that this medicine did not pass separate tests conducted by Iraqi authorities, and the products circulating in the market have been confiscated.
According to reports, in 2022, Indonesia, the Gambia, Uzbekistan, and Cameroon experienced outbreaks of contaminated cough drops, resulting in approximately 300 deaths among children.
The report points out that diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol are harmful to the human body, with toxic reactions including abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, inability to urinate, headache, changes in mental state, and acute kidney injury that may lead to death.
The World Health Organization has previously issued five warnings for other contaminated liquid dosage forms of drugs.
