The world-class project of "chasing light" on the Qinghai Tibet Plateau achieves complementary advantages of water and solar energy, with installed capacity | water and solar | energy
CCTV News: Pumped storage has solved the problem of not being able to store clean energy. How can we truly stabilize clean energy? Now let's cross over to the Qinghai Tibet Plateau and learn about another world-class project - the Kola Photovoltaic Power Station, Phase I of the Yalong River Lianghekou Hydroelectric Power Station, which complements water and light.
On the Zhalatosan Snow Mountain in western Sichuan, with an altitude of 4600 meters, the world's largest water solar complementary power station - Kola Photovoltaic Power Station - shines brightly in the sunlight of the plateau. At the end of June, this power station with a total investment of over 5.3 billion yuan and an installed capacity of 1 million kilowatts was put into operation, with an average annual power generation of 2 billion kilowatt hours. This is also the first time in the world that the installed capacity of water solar complementary power stations has been increased to the level of one million kilowatts.

Yang Zhiwei, Project Manager of Guotou Yalong River Hydroelectric Kela Water Light Complementary Power Station: Our photovoltaic power generation is relatively unstable compared to other forms of power generation, and it is often intermittent. Once such unstable electricity is connected to the grid, it will definitely have a certain impact on the grid. In order to stabilize it, we bundle it with water and electricity, connect the photovoltaic power to the hydropower station, balance it with water and electricity, and finally send it to the grid.
The Kola Photovoltaic Power Station is located in the Yalong River Basin, one of China's nine major clean energy bases. The electricity generated by the photovoltaic power station will be connected to the Lianghekou Hydropower Station at the foot of the mountain through high-voltage lines, achieving complementary water and light, and "bundling" to output more stable electricity.

Yang Zhiwei, project manager of Guotou Yalong River Hydroelectric Kela Water Light Complementary Power Station: In addition, it has a significant feature of being adjusted according to seasons. When we have more light resources during the dry season, we generate more photovoltaics and less hydropower; When there are abundant water resources during the flood season, hydroelectric power is more abundant and photovoltaic power is less abundant, which can form a strong alliance and complement each other's advantages.
