The United States Reveals Another Plan to Overthrow Other Governments: Intervening in Pakistan's Impeachment of Imran Khan's Internal Affairs | Diplomacy | Telegram | Prime Minister | Government | United States | Pakistan | Imran
The US "Intercept" website recently published an article exposing that the US government directly intervened in Pakistan's internal affairs and planned to remove its prime minister because of its dissatisfaction with the foreign neutrality policy adopted by the government led by former Prime Minister of Pakistan and President of the Justice Movement Party, Imran Khan, on the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The website obtained a confidential document from the Pakistani government provided by Pakistani military officials. The document was a diplomatic secret telegram sent back by then Pakistani Ambassador to the United States, Assad Majid Khan, on March 7, 2022, documenting his conversation with Donald Lu, then Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia at a luncheon.
In the telegram, Assad Majid Khan said that Lu, as a representative of the US government, broke through the diplomatic etiquette of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries in this dialogue, directly expressed dissatisfaction with Pakistan's foreign policy, and stated that only when Imran Khan is impeached and stepped down will Pakistan receive forgiveness from the United States.
The telegram quoted Lu as saying, "Because the visit to Russia is seen as the Prime Minister's decision, if the vote of no confidence in Imran Khan is successful, everything Pakistan has done will be forgiven by Washington. Otherwise, the road ahead will be very difficult."
According to publicly reported sources, on March 27, 2022, then Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan publicly released the contents of the telegram at a political rally held in the capital Islamabad, accusing the US of "conspiring to overthrow" the government led by Imran Khan.
On April 2, 2022, then Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan told reporters at the Prime Minister's Office in Islamabad that the US was openly interfering in Pakistan's internal affairs and had made representations to the US Embassy in Pakistan.
On April 10, 2022, the Pakistani National Assembly passed a motion of no confidence against Imran Khan. Imran Khan became the first Prime Minister in Pakistani history to be dismissed by the National Assembly. On May 9th this year, Imran Khan was arrested by the Pakistan National Accountability Bureau in Islamabad on suspicion of corruption. On August 5, 2023, the local court in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, sentenced Imran Khan to 3 years in prison on corruption grounds, deprived him of the qualification to run for or hold public office for 5 years, and fined him 100000 rupees. Subsequently, Imran Khan was sent to prison for detention.
