Libreville News: On the afternoon of the 30th, the spokesperson for the Gabonese Institutional Transition and Restoration Commission, Manfuby, announced on national television that he has appointed the commander of the Gabonese Republican Guard, Brice Oliji Nguema, as the chairman and transitional leader of the commission.
Mangfubi said that at the Gabonese military officer meeting held earlier that day, the attendees unanimously decided to appoint Nguema as the chairman of the committee and transitional leader. Mangfubi said that Nguema emphasized the importance of maintaining national stability and tranquility. Mangfubi did not specify the duration of the transition period.
Mangfubi also said to maintain a curfew from 6pm to 6am the next day.
On August 30, 2023, local time, spokesperson for Gabon's Institutional Transition and Recovery Committee, Manfubi, issued a statement on television.
On the early morning of the 30th, the Gabonese Election Center announced that current President Bongo was re elected with 64.27% of the vote in the presidential election held on the 26th. Subsequently, more than ten military personnel issued a statement on Gabon's 24 television station under the name of the "Institutional Transition and Restoration Committee", claiming that the election results were invalid and that they had taken power, dissolved state institutions, and closed the country's borders. After the Institutional Transition and Restoration Committee issued a statement on national television, Bongo was placed under house arrest, and his son and several high-ranking officials from the Presidential Office were arrested.

Bongo released a video of about 50 seconds to the media through the Presidential Office that day. He did not use the official language of Gabon, French, in the video, but said in English that he is currently in his residence and his wife and children are elsewhere. He called on all sectors to speak up for this.
Bango is currently 64 years old and has served as Gabon's Minister of Defense and other positions. Elected as the President of Gabon in 2009 and re elected in 2016. On August 26th, Gabon held presidential, legislative, and local elections.
