The surgery removed the gauze left over from the cesarean section 14 years ago! The Health Bureau responded that women with chronic abdominal pain are suspected to have tumors
According to Jiupai News, Ms. Wu from Xinhua County, Loudi, Hunan Province, recently reported that she had a cesarean section at the Shichongkou Town Health Center 14 years ago, and often experienced abdominal pain and inflammation after surgery. The hospital examination results showed that she had a foreign body in her abdomen, suspected to be a tumor.
In June this year, the so-called "tumor" was removed and turned out to be rotten old gauze. Under the mediation of the Medical Investigation Commission, the Shichongkou Town Health Center is willing to compensate about 130000 yuan. Ms. Wu hopes to receive an apology from the chief surgeon of that year and also hopes that the relevant departments will take disciplinary action against her.
"Tumor" turned out to be gauze
On August 31st, Ms. Wu told the reporter about the incident. She stated that she had a cesarean section at the Shichongkou Town Health Center on June 30, 2009. "Three hours after the surgery, her abdomen was swollen and had not subsided," she said
Ms. Wu's family requested a transfer, but was refused by the hospital. Until the sixth day, seeing that Ms. Wu's condition had not improved, and at the strong request of her family, the health center agreed to transfer Ms. Wu to Xinhua County People's Hospital.
"The referring doctor at the time said that if I were to transfer to another hospital later, it would pose a threat to my life," Ms. Wu said.
Since 2009, Ms. Wu has been plagued by abdominal pain and frequent inflammation, which has seriously affected her work and life.
"I have always suspected that there were problems with the surgery back then, and the doctor may have missed something inside." Ms. Wu said that she had gone to multiple hospitals for color ultrasound and abdominal imaging, and the results all showed that there was a foreign body in the abdomen, but she could not determine what the foreign body was.

In January of this year, Ms. Wu felt a worsening of abdominal pain and went to the hospital again for examination. The results showed that the foreign body had enlarged, suggesting that it was a tumor.
In June, Ms. Wu surgically removed the "tumor" from her abdomen and found that it was actually a piece of gauze, and because it had been in her body for too long, it had begun to rot.
The hospital is willing to compensate 130000 yuan
Due to the doctor's negligence, Ms. Wu has been tormented for 14 years. In order to seek justice, she and her husband contacted the former chief surgeon Liu and Chen.
However, the chief surgeon at that time did not apologize for this matter, and Ms. Wu's request for compensation from the doctor was also refused. "He believes that the surgery is organized by the unit, so let's contact the health center to solve it, and it should not be targeted at him personally." Ms. Wu said
Subsequently, Ms. Wu sought help from relevant departments. Under the mediation of the Medical Investigation Commission, the Shichongkou Town Health Center is willing to settle this matter with compensation of no more than 100000 yuan.
"It's just the cost of mental loss, plus a few hospitalization expenses, but it's still within 100000 yuan," Ms. Wu said. She couldn't accept this result.
Ms. Wu said that after mediation, the health center was willing to compensate about 130000 yuan, and "my demand is also about this amount.".

At present, the relevant compensation has not been received yet.
At the same time, Ms. Wu hopes that the chief surgeon at that time will apologize and that the relevant departments will take disciplinary action against her. However, the relevant departments have informed Ms. Wu that due to the long period of time, it is difficult to hold her accountable now. "When they investigated, they said that it has been so long, and if it takes 2 to 5 years, he can be held accountable," Ms. Wu said.
The factual basis is difficult to verify
On August 31st, the reporter called the former chief surgeon Liu and Chen, who are currently employed by the Loudi Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital and Xinhua County Medical Insurance Bureau. Staff from both units expressed that they were not aware of this matter.
The staff of Shichongkou Town Health Center told reporters that the Medical Investigation Commission is currently handling the matter. Subsequently, the reporter contacted the mediator in charge of this matter, who stated that it was inconvenient to disclose the specific details.
The staff of Xinhua County Health Bureau stated that they have been investigating and handling this matter, "but the factual basis of this matter cannot be found anymore, after all, it has been 14 years." Ms. Wu also admitted, "After all, after so many years, the certificates for taking medicine and injections every year are gone."
The staff of the Health Bureau stated that if it is determined to be the responsibility of the health center, "they will take full responsibility."
The reporter noticed that similar incidents are not isolated cases. Previously, media reported that a woman in Fuyang, Anhui Province, was left with medical gauze in her body for 13 years after a cesarean section, resulting in a ninth degree disability. The woman sued and received a compensation of over 460000 yuan.
