On August 10th, in Changjiang, Hainan, the core module of the world's first land-based commercial small nuclear reactor, Linglong 1, was lifted high and moved towards the direction of the nuclear island. The lifting was successful, and key equipment such as pressure vessels and evaporators were in place in one step. The installation work of the world's first reactor, Linglong 1, entered its peak period.
"Linglong 1" is a technology demonstration project of China National Nuclear Corporation's Hainan Multipurpose Modular Small Reactor, which is a significant achievement of China's independent innovation in nuclear power after "Hualong 1". It fills the domestic gap and has broad global market prospects. The successful hoisting of the core module of the reactor this time is the first demonstration of modular manufacturing and installation of nuclear reactors, marking China's leading position in the world in the construction of modular small reactors.

Small reactors play an increasingly prominent role in the new round of nuclear energy technology revolution and international industry competition due to their unique advantages in safety, deployment flexibility, and versatility. Linglong 1 is an innovative nuclear reactor developed by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) on the basis of mature pressurized water reactor nuclear power plants and nuclear power technology, with independent intellectual property rights. It is the world's first small modular pressurized water reactor to pass the International Atomic Energy Agency's general safety review. The core module of the Linglong 1 reactor that was lifted this time is also known as the "Linglong Heart" and is the core component of Linglong 1.
The CNNC Hainan Multipurpose Modular Small Reactor Technology Demonstration Project started construction in Hainan on July 13, 2021. It is the world's first onshore commercial modular small pressurized water reactor. After completion and operation, it is expected that the annual power generation will reach 1 billion kilowatt hours, and the annual carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by about 880000 tons, equivalent to planting 7.5 million trees per year. This project will use stable and reliable clean energy to support the achievement of the national "dual carbon" goals and the construction of a "clean energy island" in Hainan.
