According to today's Russian television website on August 21, local authorities in Voronezh Oblast, Russia have announced a state of emergency in a region due to a deadly outbreak of bacterial anthrax.
Volonezh Governor Alexander Gusev took the above measures in the Panino district on the 20th. The local government issued a statement on the 21st stating that these measures will continue at least until November 16th.
During this period, unauthorized personnel entering the area will be restricted. The transportation, import, and slaughter of animals that have not been vaccinated against anthrax have been explicitly prohibited. The statement also stated that the transportation of meat products and feed from the region, as well as hunting of wild animals, is prohibited.
The authorities also stated that local governments and regional institutions have controlled the epidemic, and every household in the affected residential areas has undergone inspections. Two mobile health stations and veterinary stations have arrived in the area. The authorities did not provide detailed information on the number of detected cases or infection status.
