The scope of protection has greatly expanded! The newly adjusted "Three Haves Wildlife List" has released a list of terrestrial wildlife with important ecological, scientific, and social value | Original | Scope
On June 30th, the reporter learned from the State Forestry and Grassland Administration that the newly adjusted "List of Terrestrial Wildlife of Important Ecological, Scientific, and Social Value" has been announced and will be implemented from the date of its announcement.
The newly adjusted "Three Haves List" includes a total of 1924 species of wild animals, including 91 species of mammals, 1028 species of birds, 450 species of reptiles, 253 species of amphibians, 96 species of insects, 2 species of arachnids, and 4 species of oligochaetes. Compared with the original list first released in 2000, while retaining the original species, more than 700 new wild animals were added, achieving a significant expansion of the scope of wildlife protection.
In addition, 12 species of mammals, 130 species of birds, 28 species of reptiles, 11 species of amphibians, and 8 species of insects belonging to the 8 genera that were included in the National Key Protected Wildlife List in the original list were retrieved for stricter protection. For species listed in the original list that are not naturally distributed in China; Those that have been included in the National Catalogue of Animal Genetic Resources and have no wild populations in China; Widely distributed in China, with extremely high population numbers and no risk of extinction, and may even cause harm; It has been transferred out according to the management of aquatic organisms and other situations.
This directory adjustment, based on the scientific evaluation of the ecological, scientific, and social value of terrestrial wildlife species, fully considers various factors such as population dynamics, threats, and social concerns, and adheres to the basic principles of prioritizing ecology, maintaining scientific research needs, and promoting social development. For vertebrates, efforts have been made to protect them as much as possible; For invertebrates, due to their wide variety and large quantity, those that are necessary and comply with the basic principles of adjustment should be included. This directory adjustment will effectively promote the improvement of protection and management capabilities, the protection and improvement of natural ecology, the level of scientific research on wildlife, and the enhancement of public awareness of conservation.
Next, forest and grass departments at all levels will implement the adjusted implementation work of the "Three Haves List" in accordance with the requirements and laws, effectively strengthen the safety of wild populations and their habitats, and strictly prevent the indiscriminate hunting of wild animals and habitat destruction. Strictly enforce laws and regulations, crack down on illegal and criminal activities, and resolutely prohibit the indiscriminate consumption and illegal trading of wild animals. Ensure the transition and coordination of directory adjustments, standardize filing and other related activities in accordance with the law, and provide guidance and assistance to units or individuals who have legally engaged in artificial breeding and utilization of related species, in order to safeguard their legitimate rights and interests.
China has a rich variety of wild animals, with 8197 species of vertebrates alone, making it one of the countries with the largest number of wild animal species in the world. To further enhance protection efficiency, China implements classified and graded protection management for wild animals. Precious and endangered species will be given priority protection. For terrestrial wildlife that needs to be protected beyond national and local key protected wildlife, the "List of Terrestrial Wildlife with Important Ecological, Scientific, and Social Value" will be formulated to strengthen protection and management.
