The ruling party of Cambodia, the People's Party, won parliamentary elections with an absolute advantage
The Cambodian National Election Commission announced the official results of the seventh National Assembly election on the 5th. The ruling party, the People's Party, won the election with an absolute advantage and won 120 out of 125 seats in parliament.
The official results show that the People's Party received approximately 6.398 million votes, with a vote share of 82.3%. The second ranked party, the Fengxinbik Party, received approximately 716000 votes, with a vote share of 9.2%, and won 5 parliamentary seats.
Current Prime Minister Hun Sen said on July 26th that the new Cambodian National Assembly will hold its first meeting on August 21st, and the new government will be sworn in on August 22nd. He will no longer serve as the Prime Minister of Cambodia, and the next Prime Minister candidate of the Cambodian People's Party, Hung Mane, will lead the new government.
The parliamentary election was held on July 23rd, with 18 political parties including the People's Party and the Fengxinbik Party participating in the election.
The National Assembly is the highest authority and legislative body in Cambodia, with a term of 5 years each. The parliamentary seats are allocated based on the election results, and the political party that receives the majority of seats is responsible for forming a new royal government.
