The proliferation of gun violence forces black families to flee America!, American media: Severe racial discrimination in Italy | Dawkins | United States
Nadina and her husband Dawkins
On August 16th, China Daily reported that many people buy Italian townhouses to enjoy sunshine or vacation and recuperation throughout the year. In Texas, a black family -59 year old Nadina, 61 year old husband Dawkins, their 29 year old child Lorenzo, and 27 year old Dena - bought a house in the small town of Latronico to stay away from the United States and start a new life.
After Freud was murdered, their family decided to leave the United States in 2020. Nadina said, "This tragedy shows the world the treatment we African Americans have received for centuries.".
She said that during Trump's presidency, racism and hatred led to groups of capable black people fleeing the United States.
Nadina said, "The United States is a divided country, voting rights are receding, and the history of black people is being destroyed. The atrocities committed by the police against black people, the large-scale shootings by domestic terrorists, and the overall hatred of this country are all reasons why we left the United States.".
Before moving to Italy, Nadina served in the military for 30 years, while Dawkins worked for the US government.
Latronico is located in the southern region of Brazil, Italy, and is home to approximately 4000 people.
Nadina's great great grandfather was Italian and came to the United States in the 19th century. Her Italian ancestors took an American name: Clint Jeffrey and married her great great grandmother Lucinda, whom he bought from a plantation in Arkansas.
Nadina hopes to embark on a root seeking journey after arriving in Italy. She didn't know where her grandfather came from in Italy, but she kept an old photo of him by her side.
She said, "After listening to my grandmother's story, I always feel a connection with Italy." Unfortunately, I don't have any more information about Lucinda. My grandmother and great grandmother never told me any other information about her, because life was difficult for African Americans born in the 19th and early 20th centuries
Nadina plans to move to Ratronico and promote language exchange by teaching English to local young people, hoping to help the town become more famous. She said, "We like the people here, and we have never met a harsh person. Everyone provides coffee. One day, we met a villager in a store, like our best friend, who took us to his house to drink strong coffee, even though I don't drink coffee at all."
Dawkins said that the only challenge in Ratronico is overcoming language barriers and adapting to isolated environments. He said, "People patiently ask me to communicate with translation software every time, and this town is very remote, so you really need a car to walk within walking distance." "But the best thing is, even at night, you can leave the key on the door. It's a quiet and safe place that can make people feel at ease."
Nadina and Dawkins stated that in the end, they hope to obtain Italian citizenship.
